You missed out a key question: "Is some clubs having having a rich owner with a big chequebook a good thing or a bad thing for the competition, in the context of franchising?

And that is only partly in jest. It MIGHT be something to consider in your dissertation, given the security that having the assured financial backing provides. Are the implications any different to having or not having a rich backer in a P&R environment? I'm not sure, but it might be an interesting subject for consideration given that we have a competition that is polarising between those with a rich backer and those without. They will doubtless say the same in the lower leagues - especially with O'Connor at Widnes. Is it any co-incidence that they are the favourites for a franchise?
