| Quote mat="mat"The need for another half, even before rumours re orford started, must have been apparent to the club from mid season onwards so I'd have thought they have been looking since then as a priority.
I'd have thought most people will be pleased with Elima and Walker (on his pre injury form at least). Ainscough and Hargreaves are both promising prospects who I'd have thought would have had offers from over clubs.
Ah Van is the real shot in the dark and dont think club would expect people to be excited about him (although to be fair both hape and les were relative unknowns when we brought them over). I think that places more weight of expectation on his shoulders to an extent which may be unfair.
Sibbit and Raynor are to mind just makeweight signings using up spare salary cap (at least I hope thats the case).'"
We shouldn't be signing players just to use up salary cap. If we don't actually need them (and I don't think we do) then we should leave the cap space in case somebody comes available mid-season, or we need a loan signing.

He's 32 and will 33 by the start of next season.
A shocking signing that does nothing for the club and it's image.
In fact I would say that this will turn people off pledging

| Walker and Bailey came out of jail and did a pretty reasonable job for Leeds. And at least Raynor did not end up banged up for decking someone - or worse.

| Quote Bradford Badger="Bradford Badger"It's ok having a big squad, but only 17 can play at a time..........
You'd think that to some degree, the exposure the youngsters got this season would mean they'd be in a better position to get more game time next year and be more capable at coping with it. All these "average" we're signing are going to stop the development of the Finigans / Donaldson's of our club.
I'm not denying that some of the players we are signing may turn out good for the club, but at the minute we're looking like signing moe than we're letting go and hence stuttering the development of the youngsters.'"
Its all about balance. Theres no one more than me that would love to see us competing with a team full of home grown youngsters but the fact is some of them are just not upto it yet unless of course your prepared to merely turn up for a couple of seasons but even then the young guys might not cut it eventually & you run the risk of causing more damage than good by throwing them in.

It will, but if competition for places is what Potter wants then I suppose it will give him it.
We need the half to be a quality player though, not Obst, Cooke or a NL player.
I reckon Kearney will be used at 6 as we're unlikely to be able to find two halves now. (I hope i'm proved wrong though)
That means one of Ah Van, Halley, Sykes, Finigan or Platt would be at full-back.

Not a question of how well he'll do. How much abuse did Leeds get for keeping Walker and Bailey. I remember a hell of a lot.

| Same abuse as we got for keeping Pryce.
Next?
And sorry, I thought you signed players for how good a job they'll do for you, not for how little abuse you'll get from fans of other clubs?

In principle I agree with that, however I'd guess sibbit and raynor's combined wages (given their ages and circumstances) wouldnt be enough to sign anyone better than journeyman standard mid season. It could be enough to make difference between us signing a decent standoff and a top one though which is why i'm hoping the standoff situation has been sorted before we signed these 2.

I think most clubs will have some one playing for them who has done much worse than Raynor has so don't really see that as a valid point. Wether he's good enough............ different matter

I think the most likely scenario is that we're signing a 7 to go with Kearney and Southernwood as half-backs. I can't see Orford returning and I can't see us finding both a 6 and 7 of sufficient quality.
