After a break to have a nice holiday abroad - and get married! - I've now got round to adding my favourite game of all time, The '89 Challenge Cup Semi-Final V Widnes. I've edited as much as I can noting Youtube's 10 minute limit.

I obviously can't add the link to RLFans however type St Helens v Widnes 1989 into Youtube and you'll find it easy enough.

I was always brought up to know there was no final. The players had a party in London with punch, jelly and ice-cream. The trophy was won in a game of pass the parcel. |

That stuck with me for many many years. Made me giggle for a long time. His dull lifeless voice was even more duler, and even more lifeless that evening.

The sad thing about that game is that Wigan were only marginally less sh[ii[/it than we were. If Widnes had reached the final, they would have murdered Wigan, if they'd played like that.
I don't think anyone who has not seen it can truly comprehend the awfulness of Saints display that day. The 70-0 at Leeds was a sterling effort in comparison.
Nothing will take the memory of that semi-final away though. A fantastically enjoyable game of Rugby League although the naivety of it all wouldn't appeal to the likes of Nathan Brown and Mick Potter.  |
