| What can you say about that debacle? We were absolutely terrible for the entire 80 minutes and whichever brainbox decided to go with no kickers managed to turn a comfortable win into an excruciating defeat. Are they suggesting that with all these 'wonderful' young players we haven't got one player who can kick goals? Seriously? Do the academy lose most weeks in a similar fashion to tonight? Where is Foster, the great white hope and demon goal kicker? I don't care how small they are, even if they are 13 and 2ft tall we could hide them on the wing and use them purely for goalkicking. If there genuinely isn't anyone, they should hire an amateur player on a short term deal purely for that purpose.
Wellens is going to take a lot of stick tonight, and rightly so. Ignoring his goal kicking, which is absolutely awful for a minute his play in general was shocking. He cost us a try for Ryan Atkins embarrassing effort (Why is it only us that does stuff like that?) and he bombed about three or four clear overlaps through being too scared to pass the ball. I also thought it was pretty embarrassing for him to appeal so much having taken a hand off from Demetriou which slipped down his arm onto his forearm.
In terms of the season as a whole it probably doesn't mean a thing, possibly it will add up to 2nd overall instead of 1st, but it's not a big deal. I just hope the lessons have been learned tonight and that we don't go into any meaningful games without a kicker.
Mick Potter should ultimately get the blame for the horror show tonight. He should have put Wello out of his misery after 3 attempts and given it to Gidley. Why Gidley didn't take the penalty at the end is beyond me, an easy kick for a left footed player. There were three attempts tonight that I would have kicked, so it's not really 'okay' to just let Wello fail, fail, fail.
Well done Wakefield. A thoroughly deserved win and tactically spot on. John Kear is an absolutely fantastic coach. While our 11 internationals ran round making a fool of themselves in the most disorganised shamozal I've ever seen, his rank and file mob went about their business superbly, led brilliantly by Brough and Demetriou.

Glad you thought so too, judging by the amount of booing from yours fans not many others thought so though!

| 5 tries to 4 says we weren't terrible. Having no kicker is the problem.

Jamie Ellis is a scrum half who can kick so why didn't Potter pick him

Not really. If we had a player with a Sunday league level of kicking ability we would have won comfortably tonight which would have masked the poorness of the performance.
We've not played well consistently all year and on more than a few occasions we have been absolutely awful. Something isn't working and I'm starting to suspect it's the growing influence of Mr Potter. We Ando still at the club I reckon we'd be polishing the hub cap by now and picking our seats for Wembley and OT.

| Maybe ( and it's only a maybe) Saints thought they would outscore the opposition tonight and that goalkicking would not be the difference. Even so after missing so many you would have thought that at least one other player would have put his hand up and took the responsibility for the last penalty when Wellens confidence was well and truly shot at.

| Surely it could be seen in training during the week that Wellen's kicking wasn't up to scratch? Was it down to pressure or did the conditions play a big part?
Either way it made it an exciting game to watch

Playoffs are much more tricky this year. Leeds and saints won't get it their own way.
If you don't go into the playoff with form you'll be looking over your shoulder.

In the play offs this year the top two don't play each other until the final (assuming they both get there). Both teams will get home advantage in their play off games

Eastmond was in the 19 and I assume only ruled out late on or he would have been kicking.

| We did enough to win it, I.E Scored more tries, jsut didnt kick for shyt. All in all the job was almost done, just a bit of a fundamental flaw in the team choice with not having a kicker, or beliving we did have a kicker who would atleast pop ONE over... ah well

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Matt Gidley is not Jamie Lyon, he's not a goalkicking centre!
He has kicked about 6 goals in his career, all whilst at Saints.

| Wello said he was goal kicker, and took the responsibility all night. Potter could have said "tell him not to kick anymore" but he respected wello's deciscion to go for it and let him do it for the full 80, only wello i think could have said "fek this, ere have a go gids".
I always found it bizzare that Pryce and Wilkin cant kick for goal, seems weird that they cant.

Well, the ref was firmly in Saints' pocket.
Which ultimately shows how well Wakefield played.
Cunningham - and Saints fans say he isn't a dirty player!
