| Quote: craigizzard "Reading back through the thread, not allowing Jon Wilkin a 24-hour hotline to The Sun would be an "anti-intellectual" prohibition on "expressive and thoughtful discussion".
It's not about self-censorship, it's about sense. Stirring up discord publicly is just unnecessary. I suppose if having the wit to address things, if they're so vital, through channels other than a red-top newspaper is self-censorship then I'm in favour of it. It does not reduce your "character".
And these characters on the pitch we've killed off? The likes of Roy Haggerty, Chris Arkwright, Paul Round (from my generation), and plenty even more "characterful" before then? If you're so fond of them, and their on-field faults, then I don't see how you can so easily call Bailey, a man from a very bad background who was jailed at 18 but has been a disciplined and successful professional sportsman since then, a thug.'"
Who equated being a "character" with thuggery? I didn't. The only person I mentioned was Alex Murphy and that was in relation to a comment that was funny at the time and was even funnier when it exploded in his face. By all means attempt to draw a link between my interpretation of a "character" and condoning thuggery. I can tell you it will be a wasted exercise.
Quote: craigizzard "I hope you're right about the lack of effect on the England camp, by the way. It's not so much on-the-pitch that I'm worried about, it's feelings in camp. But hopefully everyone can self-censor their feelings and rise above it.'"
It would be even better if players said what they felt and discussed things like adults rather than children.

It might be if you had any evidence in relation to my thoughts on either. You don't. Which kind of highlights your inability to debate more than anything else. The fact is you didn't know the difference between an option and an ethical restraint. You were found out and so you hastily tossed in two random names and hoped for the best. I correctly identified their irrelevance and you claimed victory.
Try harder next time.

So if, by chance, the try in the last minute had been scored at the other end, where the Saints fans were, you'd have had no problem with Bailey doing that in front of them?

Yeah, as long as he isn’t swearing at them or outright insulting them I wouldn’t have problem with it. He has earned the right to celebrate by winning. If people cant deal with the opposition celebrating victory they really shouldn’t be allowed out of the house.

| What is needed is for Redhall to come up with a Rugby League version of Aristotle's ethical theory of the golden mean. Something which is a balance between the free speech as exercised by Bailey, and the ethical restraint demanded by Wilkin;
You can whoop but not holler when celebrating, you can congratulate a team member on a try saving tackle, but not mock an opponent when they knock on.....etc etc.
And perhaps those po faced posters, will take the time to reflect on the folly of repeating Urban Myths in an attempt to bolster their own Agendas, and acquaint themselves with the term rehabilitation?

| Think Wilkin should follow Jack Charlton's example. Jack kept a legendary black book of players that he had on his hit list. Wilkin should have put it in his database and sorted him out next time he played him. Another quote from JFK "Don't get mad, get even!" also applies.
Bailey's game plan is to upset and put players off their game by fair means or foul. This is not a new technique and it's suprising how many so called professional players get sucked in.
It wont be long before Bailey reaps what he has sown. Wilkins comments should not be allowed to detract from a game that was a tremendous advert for the sport.

| Jon Wilkin is the worst loser ever.......despite all the practice he's had.
It's that complicated.

| It is sad what was such a good advert for the game, sadly one side had to lose has had some much media coverage of one players comments and an 11 page thread so far, I just Hope Jon learns a lesson and how to rise above such petty comments to media in future.

Thats it ,well done, blame Wilkin for Bailey being a c0ck. If you want to moan about bad press then look at the cause - the embarrassment that is Ryan 'hardman when I'm hiding behind my team mates' Bailey.

Or....I blame Wilkin for Wilkin being a c0ck. The cause of the bad press is his annual guttural whining citing either the weather, his socks being too tight, he hadn't shaved his legs or his hairdresser was off sick. The big girl should be sponsored by Mothercare.
As a Bulls fan, it's clear to me Bailey does what it says on the tin, winds people up. How he celebrates really is up to him and he is simply playing his pantomime villain role. If Wilkin has an issue put him on his arris in a game, don't bitch in an @rse rag.
For the record, Wilkin presents himself as far more of a n0b than Bailey ever could, simply because he is unable to back up anything he does or says. It's that simple. At least Bailey for all his wind up value, has a pop and plays the role. Wilkin would be p!ss poor at pantomimes, he can't fulfill any role.
Man up Wilkin and do your chelping on the park, this isn't wendy ball.

I`m not quite sure what all the fuss is about to be honest.
Bailey does get under the oppositions skin players and supporters and clearly that works for him.
Wilkin making the comments he did just shows that timing is everything and should have kept his mouth shut and saved it for another day.
What offends some does not offend others.
Let`s face No 1 Saint some could be offended by your sig so maybe calling Bailey a cock is not that justified hey!!?

Funny that. Even a couple of the Leeds players were unhappy with Bailey so I'd say that Wilkin was very able to back up what he did. Interesting too that after that bit of handbags had finished towards the end of the game, Bailey was straight off the field so maybe his coach isn't too happy with him either.

Wilkin wasn't speaking about himself so you are talking out of your sphincter.

Ignore Jaybs, he never has anything positive to say about Saints. He's the most boring poster on these boards.
I find it hilarious how people are having a go at Wilkin for Bailey being a complete knob.
