Its massive for us that he's staying. He gives us both forward power and X Factor.

I would suggest he's one of the biggest overseas stars in SL today.

Not many could argue against that, and he clearly has 2 more years left in him

My view, is that's it's a risk signing a player who will be 34 years of age when he finishes at Saints, and I think Saints knew that when they initially offered him a one year deal.
However with Graham leaving it's probably a risk worth taking.

I don't think that having four 30 odd year olds in the pack (if you sign Waterhouse) is the way to go, especially as they are all overseas players. I'm not as convinced as some on here that Clough and Magennis are prop forwards.
I think signing Hill form Leigh would be a better signing for Saints than Waterhouse.

The reason I asked the question in the first place was to see if the poster meant that it was the best Saints signing or the best Superleague club signing, no dramas, but some posters on here look for things that don't exist in my posts.

Its never ideal, but if your going to do it with anyone, a prop is probably your best bet, and Tony seems very durable in terms of fitness. I don't reckon Water house will be coming now, anyway.
Magennis fair enough, but imo Clough is more and more a (good) prop forward everytime he plays. I'm quite excited about the prospect of signing Hill, if the reports of him are true - its always nice to be linked to good young british talent.

bit like signing gareth hock on a 5 year deal until he is 34? bit risky cosidering he may not come back the same player!

Gareth Hock is only 27, but yes it is a risk.

I think Stuart Fielden would have been a better comparison.

To avoid the risk of players getting injured, we could just go for all young players, like Wheeler, Eastmond, Lomax, Gaskell, Frodsham, Magennis, Makinson, Armstrong. Oh hold on a sec.. Numpty

TP has one of the best injury records at Saints, and at this club not getting injured is a minor miracle!

Many props come into their prime at 30. I don't see why it should be such a big problem, it is the quality that matters.

However, I would rather us go for Hill simply because he is English and seems to have real potential.

Is'nt water house now a mute point the rules are quite clear, there is a maximum of 5 non - federation trained players allowed.

We now have 5 Puletua, Lance, Soliola, Perry, Leftanfafnafafnafafna.

Meli has an exception, so unless we can get an excemption for one of the above players that's it. Flannery knows it's curtains for him now they are all on the books. The only possibility for an excemption would be puletua. He has been on the books for 3 years already, but I dont know what year the player would have to have been playing from.

I would find it hard to imagine we are at cap yet, but having said that, is there anyone else who Saints can go for or would want to go for from another club.

There are big names out there, but most other clubs will want to keep them. Although maybe a certain Matt King for centre could be done as he is already playing in the uk??????

I must admit, the thought did cross my mind. We could definitely fit him in as he has a non-fed exemption. I couldn't see it happening, though, and even if it did it would more than likely be an expensive gamble.
