| Worst one I've seen was John Holdsworth in the Kevin Ward 8-8 match at CP. He gave a penalty to Wigan (which they kicked) for Alan Hunte being offside at our PTB. In those days the players had to be 5m behind the PTB. Techinally the penalty was correct but I'd never seen one given before or since.

The Rugby Football League are in the process of reviewing the video that you are referring to. We do not condone behaviour of this nature and have contacted the player’s employer, Hull F.C., who have confirmed that they are dealing with the incident under their club rules.

Saints number 6 wad stood well offside at the kick. Robinson was right not to award the. goal, but offside at a penalty kick at goal is a scrum to the non kicking team.'"
Is it a different rule if your in front of the kicker at a restart or drop out?

Yes, because that is a kick to restart play. A penalty is just a chance to win 2 points, the ball is not deemed to be out of play.

| What he said.
Offside at kick off is penalty on half way. Offside at drop out is penalty 10m out bang in front. Offsdie at 20 drop out is penalty on 20m line.
Offside at a penalty kick at goal is scrum to non-kicking team. Strange but true.

| What's the official penalty for taking a drop out in front of the line. I know the NRL were clamping down on this but I don't know what the resultant penalty would be. I guess a penalty in front of the posts??

Mr H used to coach us when I played RL at Leeds Uni in the early '80s. One match away at Salford in the cup the ref didn't show up so he offered to officiate. We were a poor side (I believe they are much better now ) and didn't win many. With a couple of minutes to go, with the score at 8-8, they were in possession about 20m out. Mr H's eagle eyes spotted a very similar offence at the play the ball - penalty to Leeds Uni and a 10-8 victory.
Good decision

| And if anyone's not heard my tale of the '10 point try' I was on the receiving end of when I was coaching, just let me know and I'll repeat it!

Wasn't such a good decision at CP, especially when you consider how close we were to winning the league that year.

An inexperienced referee!
Our centre slid in with the knees as the other side were scoring. No problem with a penalty after the conversion but the referee had obviously heard the term '8 point try' bandied around and somehow got it into his head that it was 6 points for the try, two for the conversion and then two points for the penalty as well making a total of ten points. He wasn't having it when I tried to point out, rather calmly ( ) the error of his ways!

Absolutely. I was at that game and remember being devastated when we ended up with a draw. If I recall we had to rely on Warrington to beat or draw with Wigan, which of course they didn't. Didn't we come second on points difference?

Yes. They had Wire and Cas left to play and won them both. Tea Ropati was a guest in the studio for Sky at the Cas game and Eddie asked him how he felt as Shaun Edwards was running round with the cup, I'll never forget the look on Tea's face!!!
At least we beat them in the Premiership Final at OT. Connolly's last game for us I think.

I remember that season well, we lost to Leigh before Christmas in a terrible match which basically cost us the league. It was typical Saints of the time sadly as we then went on to give the Goons a good shellacking 41-6 at boxing day (one of my favourite ever games). Was a great season overall (Not bad for a bunch of part timers) it's just a shame we then flogged Connolly at the end of the year and went backwards
