Back to the original point, I'd have to agree with the OP, lot of kneejerking going on, ateotd we've played one game, in awful conditions and lost because ultimately we didn't adapt well enough to the weather. I seem to recall this happening in previous seasons (harlequins in the snow for example) and gone on to make the playoffs regardless.

Yes its a worry that we seem to still be struggling to score but lets be honest with ourselves, the league and certainly the playoff positions are not decided upon after the first week of the season, there's a LONG LONG way to go yet.

Yes, but. This is not just one game, is it? It's a continuation of the previous season but without a good defence. If it had been just the one game then knee jerking would be a valid accusation. However, it isn't so it isn't.

Which is why, despite my best efforts, no one has actually jumped yet. The back end of last season was a mess performance wise. The last few seasons have shown how good the players can be, the majority of them were excellent under Anderson for example. But the level and probably more importantly the style of rugby we are playing grates. Saints are an absolutely terrible team to watch, entertainment was once thought a given, but now it's a distant dream.

We haven't scored 20 points in a non-bye situation for a stupidly long time. Those are the sorts of records the basement dwellers don't come close to replicating.

We're doing pretty well in watching all the records we did hold disappear. The little ones like it was a million years since Hull KR beat us at KR, or 8 years since Hull beat us at KR. This has to be Wire's best chance in the last 13 years of beating us at KR.

I totally understand where you are coming from but I suspect the OP was meaning the instances where people seem to believe that THIS season is a write-off after one game and are calling for Mick's head when to be frank thought we played badly, it is only the first game of THIS season and the conditions and injury-enforced changes more than played their part - on the night.



We weren't an entertaining team to watch under Anderson though, our game was built almost entirely on a strong defence and don't forget we had the majority of the 'star' players at their peaks. Don't get me wrong, i also question Potter's ability to coach 'flair' but ultimately last season was incredibly disrupted both in terms of playing personnel (did we play with the same 17 for more than a week consecutively all season?) and the rule changes completely removing our key way of playing, and I think we all too easily forget this and jump to the conclusion Potter is soley to blame. We desperately need to get some new plays but given the conditions tonight even if we had some I doubt they wouldn't have been much use.

As for the name, it is one that was given some time ago now and whilst many will disagree we deserve it, changin the site name is something that has been considered and debated here but ultimately left as is for a number of reasons.

Oh and being entertaining isn't always about speed of foot.

I don't disagree with a number of the posters saying we are not as good to watch under potter as previous years but the "entertainment factor" took a back seat under Anderson too but was masked to a certain extent by success.

That we havent signed a big name since we splashed the cash on Cayless is a worry, we are bringing through young talent and although we are losing a golden age of players there was a sizeable gap between wello and roby graham stepping up but since then the conveyor belt seems in full flow.

I still cant understand the logic of a 2 year deal for Potter if we are continuing in this vein unless we have someone lined up.

But this was obviously identified last year.

Squad wise I still think we are as good as last year if not a little quicker now. All the concern fans had last year are still there of course but if we had won tonight could we have taken much from the game played in such conditions.

Much as the pies beating the crusaders doesn't make them world beaters.

The Conditions were the same for both sides!!! Hull managed to play well and showed flair, commitment, fitness, desire, skill.
That game was playable with or without sky!!!

Things may have changed now but it used to be that the ref had to stand on the centre spot and be able to see both goalposts and all 4 corners for the game to go ahead. We could see the goalposts at the scoreboard end from where we were standing, just not what was actually going on!
