21316.jpg AT THE END OF EVERY HARD EARNED DAY, PEOPLE FIND SOME REASON TO BELIEVE.....
FIRE UP THE QUATTRO!!:21316.jpg |
|
| Flannery is a State of Origin player, which means he is a class act.....Does a lot of defensive work and contribution often under estimated as he is not a stand out player.....Missed when not there, which is the sign of a good player....

| Quote: Saddened! "Clough, Dixon and Ashurst are all clones of each other though. They will tackle till the cows come home but between them they won't trouble a defensive line in 100 years. We don't need three of those and I bet we could bring one through from the academy every year.'"
I do agree on Ashurst and Dixon (I think they'll be nothing but adequate squad members - nothing more), however Paul Clough has been immense for the past 2 seasons.
Paul Clough WILL and DOES trouble a defensive line...it takes 3-4 players to bring him to ground, and even then he'll steal a couple of yards before the tackle is complete. He is a workhorse and in my opinion should be considered for an England place. If he misses out on the squad, there is something wrong.
What I've seen of Dixon and Ashurst has done nothing to prove to me that they will match Cloughs level, or be good enough to replace Gilmour.

Obviously Clough is one of 'those' players who I would keep. He's solidity personified and will make yards, he's been invaluable in helping Jammer out. But if we signed a proper prop or two, he'd be pretty much redundant.

I'm not so sure - if we signed a top class prop, it would take a lot of weight off Jammers shoulders and make our front row lethal, but still leaving Clough with a lot of responsibility in the back row.

| Gilmour has been and is one of my favourite players.
I must admit when I heard we were signing him I wasn't impressed and didn't want him at the club at all.
How wrong was I!
His pace has been a revalation at 2nd row and brought a new dimension to our attack. But this hides the fact that he also tackles above his weight.
I think we will miss him and it's a big mistake letting him go. He's had another great season.

| Quote: Saint Simon "I know your thoughts on wilkin, and you know i disagree, but i do agree on flannery, never worth a quota spot. IMO our backline next year should be tony p, wilkin (at 13 playing the ball more)and Soliola (wheeler at centre) with cloughy on the bench, but probably playing 50-60mins though (maurie is better on for 20-30mins)'"
Simon, i think people have got the wrong end of the stick with my views on wilkin.
I've said many times that he's got all the tools to become a very good loose forward and beleive it or not he was 1 of my fave players.
It just makes my blood boil that he's not playing at the level he should be. I know people sayin he's playing out of postion but that didn't stop scully who was loose, 2nd row and stand off. Scully always played well no matter where he played.
I know wilkin ain't a patch on scully but in 2006 he showed signs he could get near that level. Even hooper played well when he was in that stand off, loose and 2nd row postion.

11659.jpg Phil Bentham scoured the video tape and despite conclusive evidence that Smith was a half yard offside, he allowed the try to stand.

Saints are a big-game team with bags of big-game experience. They have won five Challenge Cups from six final appearances in the Super League era and have won five Grand Finals in that time too.
Add two World Club Championships to that and you have the roll-call of the best rugby league team this country has produced in the modern-era - and it's a phenomenal record.

Massive loss for us next year. Huddersfield's gain.

| Gilmour is all class, still disappointed by the decision to let him go.
He's our quickest back rower and he hits the line bettern than any of back rowers. IMO, he is our best back rower and by a fair distance.

Totally agree mate.
Absolutely gutted that he is leaving and a big mistake on our part to let him go.On top of his attacking prowess, his defense, work rate and commitment are top notch.

| It's a shame to see Gilmour go as he's been a great player for us. I don't know whether he was offered a one year extension or not - I can't remember it being clearly stated anywhere - but if he was, and he turned it down, then I think letting him go was the only option. I think he would definitely have enough in him for another season but after that? I don't know. Two years was probably to long a time to commit. Plus we're broke and need to make savings wherever we can!

| Quality indeed is Lee, sad to see the cherub go certainly a player I would have loved to have stayed on for 2 more years. Soliola shoudl make a decent replacement through.

| The only reason I can see for this is the player wanted to leave or for making room under the cap.
Probably one of the most underrated players for saints and I was ecstatic when we made the signing as I always rated him.
Will be seriously missed. Clough is quality the rest should have gone before Gilly.
