I agree he did ok, he looks like a halfback and that's something we ain't seen in a saints shirt for a long long time but I feel that fact we getting carried away by few nice passes just shows how far we have gone backward. O'Brian did what any half decent number 7 should be able to do.
I think O'Brian will me much better next week, he will have had another week training and be more settled.

| We were light years off again today. Bullied up the middle & pedestrian in attack bar our usual ten minutes flurry. Caught at marker again because we haven't the forwards to contain Huddsfield, Brough played in slippers he had that much time.
Until we bring in a front row & two halves weve absolutely no chance. We can bleat about decisions as long as we want but in reality we werent even close.
Our weaknesses are easy to see & were easy to defend against, if I could fast forward to next season Id do it in a heart beat

I really do not think we was. This seems to be the stock phrase whenever we lose.

| I don't think we was bullied in the pack today, we let ourselves down by lacking creativity on their line. I'll have the stats up either tomorrow or Wednesday and I'm fairly sure they'll show quite an even meter count.

| I thought it was a creditable performance from Saints.
As i thought with Roby in the team the forwards get a lot more go forward due to his distribution and general threat around the ruck.
Our weaknesses were as follows:
Wello at Fullback who was targeted by Brough with his booming kicks. They knew full well that he would only be able to trundle it back and made our forwards return it from deep first half
Percival. Targeted heavily for the second week in a row defensively. I wont blame him for the Brough try though as that was Wilkin being stood up. However ive noted that when teams get on top of him as they have for the last few weeks, his game starts to crumble somewhat.
Half backs looked lost, however both showed bits of promise. Turner scored a decent try and o'brien looks a good passer of the football, cant tackle to save his life though, and saw none of his supposed kicking game.
Best player on the pitch was Manu who looked class. Puletua and Walmsley also had strong games.
What we need though is to go with certain combinations and stick with them.
If Lomax is back next week then he has to go to fullback.
I see a few fools are calling for Browns head
The simple answer is that whoever is in charge they wont have a chance with a team with no half backs of merit. The time to judge Brown is next year when we will have a scrum half and hopefully Lomax playing regularly at fullback.

I have no doubt they'll have made more metres but I certainly don't think we was 'bullied', we made a good yardage today.

Respectfully, that's tosh. A good coach makes the best of what he has. So far, all Brown is doing is putting unnecessary pressure upon our team by constantly changing them around. There was no need for wholesale change today but he made it anyway and so people didn't know their partners, in attack or defence, and that undermined everything we attempted to do. Brown is stupid in this regard but he clearly will not change his ways and so we will continue to slide down the table, needlessly.

| I believe we made more metres tonight. At least we did in the first half, can't imagine it changed in the second half.

At half time the stats showed we had made more metres than Huddersfield, so considering the possession we had in the second half I would be surprised if we had not finished the game with more overall yardage.
Were Hudds gained territory was in their kicking game.
Hudds looked noticeably tired in the second half. I think that's why Brough took that drop goal he knew the Hudds pack was fading.

I am one of them fools calling for Brown's head. I never wanted him at Saints in the 1st place but that's beside the point. I appreciate he has had no scrum half but I would argue that we've not had one since Longy left. Please tell me why I should have some faith in what he's doing? What are the positives he's brought to the club?

| I think our forwards stood up and went toe to toe with the Giants. LMS was miles better than he's been for weeks. However:
1. Our dinosaur back three must have been a delightful sight for Brough. Every time he turned us by kicking early in the tackle count it took them hours to get back. Quite why Gardner was picked ahead of Makinson is beyond me.
2. Our last tackle plays were poor. There were one or two decent bombs from Wilkin towards the end, but most of our kicks failed to apply any pressure at all. Understandable given the change in personnel in the half backs, but, again, I'm not sure why Brown decided to try a new 6 at the same time as giving a young loanee with approximately 4 days at the club his debut in the 7 shirt. A pairing of Wilkin and O'Brien would have made much more sense.
3. Our attack looks like it is completely made up on the spot. There is absolutely no structure whatsoever. Our best moments came when we managed to get the ball to Manu and see what happens. An (unnecessarily) untried half back partnership goes some way to explaining that, but even bearing that in mind we just look completely un-coached with the ball in hand.
4. Our edge-defence is similarly amateurish. Percy made some poor decisions, but that's to be expected from an 18 year old. But it wasn't just him. We are far too easy to break down.
I'm not going to make any flip judgements on Brown at this stage, but I'm becoming increasingly concerned.

Then your expectations are way lower than any Saints fan has a right to hold.

You're usually a sensible poster, but this is simply wet excuses in my view. Of course it would be optimistic to expect Saints to challenge for the trophy without a recognised halfback. However, it would not be unreasonable to expect them to challenge to get in the top 8. At the moment, that seems vanishingly unlikely.
I'm fed up of the "no halves isn't Brown's fault" excuse. We started this season with Lomax, Gaskell, Hohaia and Wheeler as first team halves, and with cover from Ashe and Swift. Brown couldn't get a decent performance out of Lomax at half, so moved him to FB before he got injured. Brown couldn't get Gaskell's form back, so shipped him to Salford. Brown can't get Hohaia to perform in the halves, so plays him at centre, and plays a centre in the halves in Turner. Brown put Ashe in the team despite his being gash, and played Swift on the wing. I won't blame Brown for Wheeler's bones being made of polystyrene.
Brown has to take some responsibility. He's the coach, for Christ's sake, and he must have been involved in all recruitment decisions since the middle of 2012. If we don't have cover, and he can't get decent form out of the people he expected to play in the halves, then he has to accept some responsibility for that.
I don't understand why you're making excuses for him. If there's nothing the poor dear can do until we have a top-notch halfback from the NRL ride to the rescue, then what's the point of having a coach at all ? Tell you what, give me a quarter of his salary and I'll sit there frowning as we get smashed in game after game, and then go along to the press conference and explain it's nothing to do with me, we just don't have a halfback.
