We must have someone in the academy who can catch, pass and run? Stick them on the wing and play T Mak at fullback.

| Can,t complain about the result, heroic defence for most of the game, forwards worked there socks off.
Main difference was the kicking game and penalties turning us around on the back foot, anyone who crticises Turner under the circumstances are completly out of order.

That would have been the smart option. A fully fit Wellens isn't worth much cop, never mind an injured one. What was KC thinking?

| Quote: Roy Haggerty "Then we should do the same.
It's not the offsides which cost us this game. It's james green's foul on travis burns. Stick a real halfback on the field for us today, and we win. We can't carry on with this "stick anyone with legs in the halves". We need a halfback who can actually move the ball effectively.'"
Agreed. I felt sorry for Turner today. In a high-intensity environment like that you need your ball players to be people to whom decision making comes naturally. Both with the hands and the feet Turner was terribly laboured, and it cost us repeatedly. But you can't expect anything else - it's just not his game. I don't know much about Hewitt, but there must be something seriously wrong with either his game or his attitude if he doesn't make it into the team on Monday. I'd be more than happy to accept a couple of errors from an inexperienced halfback if it meant we actually had a halfback on the field.
On the whole, though, I can't feel too negative after that match. Richards had a mare with his errors and penalties - some of them really crucial - but as a group we played with real valour today under dreadful circumstances.

I agree. I think Turner has become a decent centre. I don't have problems with him as a player. He's just not a halfback in a million years.
As you say, if Hewitt is unable to be selected when we have both halves and two half-replacements out injured, then clearly he's insufficiently rated by the club to justify even an academy salary.
We need options. Hull are nowhere near as able as Wigan, and we're almost in the "nothing to lose" place now. At least try out a kid ?

| Quote: SaintsFan "No. They ruined last SEASON as well. They didn't ruin the Grand Final, fortunately. But I got very little joy out of watching a patched up team playing when we could have had so much better. I don't just live for the Grand Final like some fans do. I want to enjoy my rugby during the season as well.
We have had 'bad ones' since 2011. Every season including and since 2011 we have had swathes of injuries undermining us. And no, not every team has that degree of injury. Leeds don't, Warrington don't, Wigan don't, Huddersfield don't. It's the same teams each season
Yes it's just saints that have all the injuries isnt it. Take you saints tinted specs off. It's full contact rugby league and all teams have injuries.

why didn't we put Manfradi and Hampshire undsr any pressure. We had chances to put the ball in the air but continued with little kicks to the ground.

Because our decision-making was all over the place. Which was surely because we had no half backs. I think we did about as well as we could have done under the circumstances today. If there's one area where we could have done better it was in our discipline when we had Wigan coming out of their own 30.

Halfback or no halfbacks I'm pretty sure Turner, lance or robes could have put the ball up in the air. Turner can't half kick a ball and he could have put snow on it but we still put those poor little kicks in.
Can't knock saints today tho wirh the injuries and losing two players during the game. It's not just injuries but it's to the key players.
Walsh shouid be back next week so let's hope he hits the ground running

Saints Fan does have a point though we do have an excessive amount of injuries especially in the key pivot positions and we are most probably the most handicapped team because of it.
We look tougher and better conditioned this season but again we seem to have an unfair share of bad luck especially when we lose 2 or 3 players per game.

But it's not just about the ability to kick a ball. It's about the ability to weigh up the situation quickly and make the right decision under great pressure. Turner might be good at the former but he isn't at the latter - because he isn't a halfback. But I think generally we're in agreement - I don't see too much to worry about, and once Walsh is back in I think we'll be fine. But I'd be inclined to give Hewitt a run in the meantime.

'" We had no chance of that, wigan players was always in front of Bentham at the play the ball to improve there line speed, it also greatly effected our deep kicking game. Wigan played the right tactics today by holding our pack and giving less time for our halves.

It's simple, on last tackle you give yourself more room. Jesus, I was doing that at 10yrs old! Surley fulltime experienced pros can stand 2m further back.

I was dissapointed Hewitt didn't get to play in both friendlies at the start of the year tbh.
He's very frustrated at the moment at not getting a run and I don't blame him. We lose walsh and can't get a kick, we lose walsh and burns and can't get a kick and now we have burns, walsh and Wilkin out and still no game time.
It suggests to me that KC doesn't rate him or thinks he's not ready yet.
