| Quote: wigan pier "Was on site parking ever part of the original plans for the stadium??.'"
Nope. One of the criteria enabling the plans to be passed was that the stadium encouraged a 'green agenda', hence the cycle sheds, limited car parking and footbridge. The Council also stated an aim to ensure that there were car parks available for use on match nights.
All this was covered around the time the plans were going through but people forget, I guess.

That's fair enough..but to suggest people have forgotten assumes they knew about the plans (and yes I know they where available for the public to view)..I didn't and I think it's fair to assume quite a few other people didn't ..only since the stadium has been built (very nice by the way) have people thought about parking.

You're a Wigan fan. Why would you look at Saints stadium plans or go to the roadshows that lots of people went to or read about the plans in the local paper, etc? I would expect non-Saints fans not to know about such things as parking plans.

Maybe because I live in St helens so they might have an effect on me..shame I never took the chance to view them (my fault)..for what it's worth nearly all the saints fans I've spoken to didn't know about parking when I asked them.

There are plenty of buses that go down Peasley cross lane including the electric buses that go round the various retail parks in the town centre.
Just park near the bus station and get the bus to the ground. There are bus stops right outside the ground on Peasley cross lane.

| Quote: St pete "I also found parking very easy at Widnes.'"
Dont forget though that there were only 6000 turning up at Widnes every week. Parking at Knowsley road was a doddle when there were only 6k on the ground, it was once you got upto 9-10k that it could start to get awkward, and when playing Wigan or Wire, well it was just logjam for upto 30 mins after the match.
Next season we will have double the 6k. Though hopefully many will use public transport or walk to the ground.

WTF indeed. Why are the club putting Chalon Way down as a car park, if the bloody thing will be closed for the match? Short sightedness from the council?
Most of the surface parking is on the other side of town isn't it? That's no good for any older or disabled supporters.

Oh yes KR had loads of parking.
This will be the same as any other stadium. The trick with parking will be how much of a walk up Saints got from the surrounding areas. If it was say 50\50 walking to travbelling then there will be little in the way of problems. If it was more 80\20. in the favour of walk ups at KR then the increase in car usage may become and issue.'"
2,500 Car Parking spaces at Wigan.

| You can get to the bus station from almost every part of the town, direct. No changes of bus or any messing about. There is also a train station close and another one not that far away just across Sherdley park.
Therefore I suspect a much higher proportion than what is typical at most grounds will be happy using public transport. Most sporting grounds are not this close to the town centre public transport links.

| It's not a battle of who has the most car parking spaces or which ground you have the shortest walk from the car! sometimes it is like the school play ground LOL!
I keep saying I heard that Langtree had identified some more land on the site and they were looking to make it
into a pay to park site if this happens then everyone will be Happy!

Geez, anyone would think that some people were being asked to climb Everest to get to a bloody match!'"
I am not familiar with the area around the new ground living where I do.
Probably need to make a visit before the season starts to identify potential parking areas

If I were you I would believe the Saints on this point. They have stated all along that the Chalon Way multistorey will be in use for matches and, since they have been in communication with the Council over this stadium for ten years now, my own inclination is to go with what Saints say rather than a random poster on an Internet message board!

| I wonder if they may be using the old Tesco car park instead of the multi storey?
