No, they weren't.
They collaborated with Nazi Germany for, what they saw to be, the good of the French people. That makes them no more a Nazi than Stalin.

| Quote: Ski "Wonderful. And at the same time, German's were bombing London, and we were flattening Dresden. Men and boys were dying in fields in Europe for both sides, people were being locked in camps and starved and diseased to death.
Britain now trades with Germany, and Jews freely live within Germany.
If these differences can be over come, then your pathetic vendetta against Rugby Union looks like nothing more than some sort of little man complex.'"
And there you are again, you can't help yourself can you.
As I have said, each to their own and if you don't like me having a go at union that is your problem, not mine.
I will say this again,I have my reasons for not liking union and you cannot deal with it and as for this little man complex I think you will find there are quite a lot of people who feel the same as me.
I was wondering have you ever read up on the conflicts between RL and union in the past like as what happened in France.
Also their was an excellent article by Harry Edgar in the Rugby League World magazine a few years ago called "The Hidden Agenda".
There are quite a few more I could mention but I think I will call it a night ok,goodnight.

No need for the history lesson I mean they [iacted[/i like Nazis against RL.
Some of us remember the prejudice against our game as late as the 1980's and witnessed and experiened it first hand.

| The funds and land that was sequestrated from RL clubs in war time France in the North and in the Vichy south was never returned after the war. Many of the grounds were confiscated and given to the Union club and after the war were not returned. De Gaule didn't push the issue as he saw RL as a hotbed of working class communism. Rugby Union sat back and enjoyed the spoils.
This happened in Perpignan too. That's why the Catalans are struggling with their ground up to today and the Union ground is the bigger and better situated.
I think the point I'm trying to make is - if the union guys in France want the League guys to forgive and forget then the simple answer would be to give back what the stole in the war. Simples.

Not quite correct ski - it was more for the good of themselves rather than the "French people"

Some of us had to suffer listening to it every day down south in the 90s and 00s.
It doesn't stop it being an incredibly pathetic argument based on people on both sides being bogged down into a rut just because.

That depends entirely on you view on history. Yes, once in power, the Vichy we incredibly self centred, as their actions towards rugby league showed. But no more so than any other opportunistic leadership in history who has sought their way or the highway. But prior to that, they saw collaboration with Germany, who had decimated most of Europe up to that point, as the only way to protect French National interest.

So what, you're holding a 20 year old grudge?
You ever thought it is time to grow up?

Wire exiled in Hampshire: |

| Sale won't go to Saints. In fact, it probably doesn'tmatter where they go, but it'll be somewhere around south Manchester or Cheshire- just a focal point for fans to go to. Someone mentioned Altrincham- people in Alty are football, not rugby of either code. I used to live in Sale and there's not a great deal of interest there now that they play in Stockport.

As soon as the armistice was signed, the Vichy regime launched the 'National Revolution', a purge of Jews, Freemasons and Communists. Jews were subject to harsher restrictions than any other occupied nation in Western Europe in the unoccupied zone.
The PM, Laval, authorised the forcible sending of thousands of French people to work as semi-slaves in German factories.
Openly Nazi figures such as Marcel Deat, Joseph Darnand, Philippe Henriot, and Jacques Doriot all held positions of power after 1943.
Petain and Laval encouraged the creation of a French Waffen SS unit.
So yep, they were not all Nazis- they were a mix of opportunists, French traditionalists, and actual Nazis.

If you're going to climb into bed with a group, you're bound to get a few.
But it is scary to think that that is what could possibly have happened with Britain had Hitler's hand not been forced East earlier than planned.
