Connor from hudds would be my choice as the backup back pickup for the year
Incoming is a lot harder this year, as zerotackle as stopped their Superleague off contract section

Conner looks decent but can't work out what his best position is.

Playing fullback centre and standoff basically covers us though! It means KC will play him at hooker mind, but thats another story.
Id take Gale or Mellor to replace Walsh quite happily, struggling to think of centres we could bring in to replace Turner though (saying more about the quality available than JT's ability...)

| I think that if we want to step up a level we need to get more out of our better paid players. I suspect that most of the players coming out of contract are on a fair whack and I don't think we're getting value.
Turner: I quite like JT, but I wouldn't offer him a new contract. He's a good centre with ball in hand, but his defence is poor. At stand off he does a decent job but is hardly a long term option. Best to let him go and get in a specialist in one position or the other.
Wilkin: again, I've got plenty of time for Wilkin, but I'm not sure he gives us enough for the doubtless substantial wage he's on.
LMS: a frustrating player. Just too many brainless penalties and moments where he switches off. I'd be surprised if we couldn't get better for the same money.
SMD: he does a good job as a backup, and would be worth keeping if it's at the right price.
It might be tricky to replace all of the first three at once, but if we could I'd go for it.
EDIT: forgot Walsh. Also probably not giving us our money's worth, but good scrum halves aren't easy to come by. I'd see how he gets on for another month or two before making a call.

| I'd keep them all personally. The reason? Because Eamon McManus is a cheap ass who would only replace them with bargain basement signings. There would be no transfer fees, no ambition and certainly no improvement on those players you are planning on cutting.

| Walsh out - Mellor In
Turner out - Connor in
That would be 2 positive moves. Then id look overseas for 2 or 3 players.
I think 2 big second rowers who can offload are musts imo.

| We might be able to replace 1 or 2 players on that list but good players are really in short supply and I'm sure other Superleague clubs will keep hold of the better players so I don't think the availability is there. I think I would look at offloading LMS being more of a liability these days, if Lomax makes a successful return then we could offload SMD, although Burns is not on the list he is becoming surplus to requirements with his below par performances.

| Quote: Starman "From the top of my head Wilkin, Walsh, LMS, Turner and McDonnell are OOC this year. There's probably a couple more but these five inparticular are interesting. Who would everyone like to keep/release if it were up to them?
To start us off
Burns should be on that list mate. His time is up IMO. I would also let Walsh go. We carry him at times, defensively the work is being spread out more because I don't think he puts much of a shift in. Long, Goulding, Martyn and co used to put a proper effort in. I'm grateful for LMS's contribution over the years but I think he's a liability like other people have said. I would keep the rest. We'd be lost without Wilkin. The fella carries Saints most of the time.
So posters might think I'm barmy but you could probably release Burns, Walsh and LMS now and I don't think it would hurt us that much.

Burns isn't out of contract this year, though.

He isn't, but there's quite a few inquiring about him at the moment if rumours are to be believed - palming him off might not be that difficult

If clubs are sniffing around Burns then we should be looking very hard for someone we could bring in on an instant basis. If we could offload him now and bring in, say, a good quality 9 to rotate with Robes, then we'd be in a better position. I'm not sure I'd let him go if there's nothing out there, though, and the fact that it seems Hudds have come knocking for him as a solution to their problems at 7/9 probably suggests that there isn't.

Or a good quality 6 and use fages as rotation with Robes. We in dire need of someone who can create something or make a break

| Wilkin out and JT at loose. JT is a big lad and has shown promise when playing at LF where his defence is not too bad when not having to read the plays. I will pay Walsh's ticket home as he is stealing a living at the Saints. I don't think it will be too difficult to replace LMS on less salary. I would persevere with Greenwood for at least another year as he is still young.
