| Well said Mr. McManus, as a Wigan fan i'm hoping for the same he was a troubled lad and if Sean Long can forgive him i'm sure the fans can. Looking forward to a great game.

| I really hope it will be respected but fear it won't be. A minutes applause would've been much more fitting

| Just observe it, it's players like Newton who makes derbies extra special. A ban is worth the banter but not death.

| Quote: Saint Simon "every idiot who never goes to league matches will be there and will have been drinking all day, it'll be a miracle if its observed'"
Exactly. 80,000 people at Old Trafford, it's fair to say that if just the regular fans who attend Knowsley Road and the DW attended that it would be nowhere near that figure, fans of other teams or not. It is also safe to assume that 3 o'clock kick off on a Sunday afternoon at either place and the silence would be served impeccably.
Therefore, if idiots decide to outwardly show their lack of dignity, they should be ignored (or preferably thrown out of the ground and banned from finals for the rest of their lives, seeing as that is probably the only game they attend)

| I can remember the Manchester derby a couple of years back for the 50th anniversary of munich.People were saying that the silence was going to be totally abused but i think but for some firecrackers going off is passed off well...think they came from outside the ground well away....Piont is both sets of fans United (which you would expect ) and City (Thought were going to abuse it) respected it..

Exactly.
I like most hope that it is observed but fear that the idiots will try to spoil it. I don't see why anyone would find it that hard to stand in silence for a minute no matter what your personal feelings are.
That said appealing via boards like this for people to honour the silence is pretty pointless when I would imagine most if not all of the posters on boards like this wouldn't consider deliberately breaking a silence.

| For me a minutes applause would be better. That way any idiots would be drowned out if they chose to disrespect the minute.

| For the sake of Rugby League the silence should be reserved for Respect, personally I do not agree with applause!!
Earlier in the week I was completely shocked with the OTT reaction from the few, but I Trust they will be in the minority, you need to think of the two young girls left with no Father, his Wife and Family.

I dont agree a mins applause comes from football where fans cant keep quiet for 60 seconds before a game where as RL fans are able to keep shut for 60 seconds.

| Listen, I am no fan of the player, however, for dignity and respect's sakes I will be keeping schtum on Saturday during the minute's silence; as a mother, I cannot begin to imagine how it would be to tell my children what their father had done, nor what it would be like to see two of my children systematically destroy themselves.
Have a heart - please please please observe this silence for his family's sake.
Thank you.

| I was hoping there wouldn't be a minute's silence, not because Newton doesn't deserve one, but because I know it won't be observed by what will most likely - and unfortunately - be a fairly large minority of Saints fans. I hope I'm wrong, because not only will it be obviously disrespectful, but because it'll tarnish all Saints fans for years to come.

Agreed. It's therefore up to us sensible types to keep our traps shut, and hopefully the SKY cameras may pick out the inconsiderate twits and give them the visual equivalent of a "name and shame".

i dont think it is appropriate as there are a number of fans who go just to drink, not to watch a game and just to cause trouble.
