| You know, I was just thinking about this the other day. 27-0 no longer carries a stigma for me. Now, it has become a badge of honour for those that were there. I am proud to say that I was stood in the terraces that day. It remains a seminal piece of St Helens folkore. If you were there or watched on the television that day you know how awful an experience that was no matter how much we expected it.
Prior to and on the day i was confident we would give Wigoon a game. It was complete folly I know because we could never match that Wigoon side on that day with the side we have. However, to have that wild-eyed optimism is something that I probably we never experience again. Now, my worst Saints moment is Murrayfield 2002 because there is no merit in being there compared to 27-0. 27-0 is now one of the most unique Saints' viewing experiences because it will never be matched. Beating Leeds in this year's Grand Final or butt-banging the Pies at Wembley on August Bank Holiday 2010 would be something that could and probably will be bettered. Losing 27-0 is a moment that connects those that were there in a way that any victory ever could. It's tragic, I know, but it is a [iBand Of Brothers[/i moment which only a certain few, in a generation, will ever share.

| It was a dark day, and a young lady I knew at the time (now my wife and a fellow season ticket holder) couldn't understand what all the fuss was about.
However, hideous as that day was we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that Rogues has to go back 21 years to find something to really wind us up about. That says more about what's happened in the intervening years to the pies than it does about what happened on the day. If that's still the only thing they can point at in another 21 years I'll be very happy indeed.

I was there and it was a crap day but it doesnt crush me at all .. it is good to look back and see how crap we were because it makes us appreciate what we have now and have had since the dawn of SL - In a way it probably crushes pie eaters like you and Rogues more because you get to look at what you used to have

Not at all because we had a vast amount of success after that for years to come, a nice thing to look back on. Getting tonked 27-0 at Wembley isn't a nice thing to look back on is it?

Nope, it was horrible.
However, the pride and performance two years later was magnificent, we got a little closer that day and after a few more years got closer and closer still, until we matched and then overtook Wigan as a force.
