I just feel Jamie Foster is more reliable in defence, can also score tries like Meli and kick goals......

Yeah, right.

Do you judge Gaskell in the same way or Dixon? After all, both of them have been dropped too. For Hohaia and Flannery.

He certainly can kick better than Meli but not so sure about the rest.
I'll leave it at that, we just going round in circles and getting bored now.

I think you know my opinion on lance hohaia.
Dixon wasn't dropped for flannery, Dixon covered flannery while he was Ill, then Dixon covered flanaghan (I think) the following week.
Dixon was never ever going to be in the starting 17 this year unless we got injuries.

| Meli has been mostly great for 3 entire seasons in most areas of the game with only a disastrous grand final 3 seasons ago and a few odd howlers since to badly blot his copybook. Foster had a solid first year in the team, followed by a steady decline over his second season to the point of becoming little more than a (vaguely) mobile turnstile this season. To compare the qualities of the 2 players is just frankly ridiculous even for the clueless one-eyed kneejerker brigade. To suggest dropping Meli (our one and only back who has consistently given opposition defences trouble for many years remember) for phantom deficiencies that he has hardly ever displayed in 3 entire years and hardly at all this season, while simultaneously calling for the reinstatement of Foster who this season has consistently made the kind of game-losing errors game-in, game-out, that Meli has never in his career come close to except in the diseased imagination of SaintsFan and her preposterous ilk is an new all-time low in Numpty Fandom. What do these people pack for brains anyway?

| I really don't buy into this argument that discounting Meli's Grand Final blunders (easily making him the biggest liability in SL history) somehow makes him a good player.
Clearly, people have lost sight of the fact that we play rugby to WIN the Grand Final. Looking good mid season with a few tries under your belt and then sabotaging EVERYTHING YOU'VE YEARNED FOR at Old Trafford in the most spectacularly calamitous way possible really doesn't float my boat.
The Australians figured Meli out very early in his career and were only too willing to offload him onto any old mug with a few quid to spend.

Yes - let's just play Foster and Makinson instead and make sure we don't even get near O/T in the first place, eh?

| Is it also worth adding to the debate that probably about half of Foster's tries for the first team have come from a Francis Meli pass?

| League Express reporting this morning that Jamie Foster has been told to pack his bags and look for a game at another club.
Seems he wont be at Saints next year, despite being under contract.

| Salford and Wakefield must be interested. I can't see him moving to a top 6 club.

WHAT???
You do say some idiotic things sometimes. Foster and Makinson were in the team most of last season (all, in the case of Foster) and we not only got to the Grand Final but Makinson - who you are constantly dismissing - turned the game around IN OUR FAVOUR (only for that doofus Meli to reverse his good work) and Foster - who you also discount - secured two points by kicking a penalty from the halfway line.
Sure, let's play Foster and Makinson and make sure we don't get to the Grand Final in the first place. Just like we did last year.

| I totally agree that our backline has to include Foster and Makinson. They were outstanding last year in an injury hit squad and should have been in from the off this season....
Wellens
Makinson
Shenton
Jones
Foster
Gaskell
Lomax
This might be a young and inexperienced backline but with the exception of Meli it got us to the Challenge Cup Semi-Finals and a Grand Final....
