Mind you, Saints don't do that either!'"
And what would you know about marketing?

Perhaps its because we don't indulge in the sort of practices that interest HMRC.
IF we were under HMRC investigation then our auditors would have to make us acknowledge it in our accounts or they wouldn't sign them off.
Wigan's accounts confirm HMRC enquiries ours don't.
End of.

I'm sure we will. There is no way the accounting report would have been allowed to get signed off without acknowledgement of the HMRC investigation.
I'm not entirely sure and it sounds like saint at wire would be able to elaborate but I think this in itself is an offence if it was to occur?

I'd imagine they probably got a royal slap on the wrist for it then if they was being investigated at the time.

I'm not an expert on company law but yes it is an offence under Section 418 of the Companies Act 2006 for any Director to not disclose "relevant audit information" to the auditors i.e. this type of thing. Our Auditors are Baker Tilly the 8th largest UK audit company so would not put up with any "funny business" or messing about from directors.
It is also a requirement thar each director ensures that he/she has taken all steps possible to find out about any such shenagans.

It sounds a bit obvious, but perhaps in 2008/09 they were not under investigation but in 2009/10 they were?

| When will this petty squabbles stop between clubs, more and more it reminds me of little girls in the school yard!
I Respect Wigan for the way they have marketed matches both my full size double posters and TV advertising along side promotions which attract younger rugby league teams which means parents. I think everyone I know saw the TV commercials and each time they were rewarded with attendances bigger than the new stadium will be!
St Helens used to at least have small poster sites years ago many on pub car parks and around the town but when did they last do that?
I trained in marketing as part of my 21 year career in commercial radio. I managed to get the radio station to sponsor a top game and of course we got a box (we had full time boxes at the two football clubs) I picked the advertisers to invite some national that came from London at our expense, what did they witness a good exciting game, but twice officials coming into the box arguing or perhaps debating with me my choice of man of the match, none of the guests wanted to select as they said they did not know much about rugby, they wanted me to select a new player in his first match.
I am sure there are mistakes made in marketing at all clubs and the way they run merchandise sales we have so much to learn from other major sports, no club can rely any longer on gate receipts alone and the other income of the club lottery can't compete with the UK Lottery prizes, so we have to learn from each other and be on Top so every income channel is completely maximised.

| So in summary, as saint at wire has shown to Rogues Gallery, a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing.

| Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere, but it gives an interesting reflection on the financial problems we've been dealing with.
rlTony Colquitt in the Liverpool Daily Post yesterdayrl
I'd love to know quite how our salary costs have risen by £400k, given that the cap has been static for some years now. Bring on the new stadium.
