| Quote: Istilldontbelieveit "Exactly the reason I can't often agree with Saddened. Far too critical of his side. The effort that day from Saints was outstanding. Trying to hang on at the end after such an effort was a massive ask. There was no 'jellyfish' syndrome. It was just complete and utter fatigue, and justified fatigue too.
Then again, and don't take this the wrong way, but I'd wager that a large quantity of Saints 'supporters' are glory hunters. Ie, the moment things aren't running like clock work, or the salary cap is finally tightening up the competition, the fact that your club isn't having things all their own way means that the majority of the squad are immediately not up to the job.
When Man Utd lost the title in the 09/10 season, all you heard spill out of their supporter's mouths were notions that 'he wasn't good enough', 'team needs a complete makeover' etc etc etc. Yet ironically, almost the very same group of players go onto regain the Premier League title and get to the CL final within the next 12 months.'"
I agree, to a certain extent.
Firstly, may I point out that I attended my first Saints games in the late 80's, so there is certainly no glory hunting with me!
I am not sure I would use the term glory hunter for what you are describing. I agree though that the expectations of some fans is perhaps a bit misguided, in that they demand success and cannot accept that you cant win everything, every season. Also, the reaction to the defeat against Wigan was completely ridiculous by some people. The amount of negativity that was spouted was laughable, given that only a fortnight earlier the same people were creaming themselves over the win against Leeds.
As for Saddened, I am slowly realising that most of his posts are an attempt at getting a reaction, as I dont believe anybody could have such a depressing outlook on his/her own team. You are spot on about what you have said with regards to the game at DW earlier in the season. I felt nothing but pride in our performance that day. To criticise us for that is simply idiotic.

| Quote: Istilldontbelieveit "Without a doubt. The only positive about injury is the oppurtunity to bring younger players in, and as the likes of Lomax, Gaskell etc have proven, Saints have quality players waiting for a chance.
Good to see a Saints fan keeping their chin up.
If you go tonight, enjoy mate! But not too much obviously
There are plenty of us mate, not all like Saddened!
It has been proven so many times that we come out fighting in adversity. Even though I dont think we will win tonight, I would not be shocked if we did. (Hope that makes sense!) Its a well-used cliche now, but you cant ever write us off.
And I agree that injuries give the younger lads an opportunity, especially Gaskell and Lomax. Having said that, I dont think people realise just how much we are missing Pryce.
And yes I will be there later, trying to hide from Saddened and the black cloud hanging over him.

Why? Somebody needs to add some light to the doom and gloom you constantly fill the place with.

You take Saddened! too seriously. He doesn't fill the place with doom and gloom. He's a good laugh.

| You know things are bad when Saddened post sound quite reasonable. I do not care if it is defense or defence as long as they bloody do it.
We need to play a larger team this week as we were really outsized last week. Flannery in the backline is a disaster waiting to happen due to his static defense. I still have sleepless nights thinking about his performance in the Grand Final last year. At least having him in the backs means he will not lose much in the pack. Give Tom Armstrong a game at centre, he deserves a chance.

Doom and gloom? Look at my profile pic, I'm a smile in a sea of miserable frowns.
The long term future of the club looks bright. We've got a lovely new stadium being built, we've got a squad full of primary school age players who will keep us 'solid' for a good few years and we've got a decent set of senior players. We're not far away from winning trophies, one or two good seasons of recruitment would be all it takes.
However, we are not in the running this season. The squad, even when fully fit, is too small and we're not as good as the top 3. The injuries and playing at Widnes haven't helped, but we're not in a false position in the league. Yet when I state the truth that we'll lose to Warrington, you say I'm being negative? This season we'll finish 4th-6th depending on how we react to another defeat to a rival. Leeds have such an easy run in that we could well drop into a battle with Catalans for 5th. From there, given how we can't seem to beat the top sides it's game over for this season. Next season doesn't look any better, with so many question marks over potential departures and us already being at the quota limits. We could end up with a huge chunk of cap money available (Basically the salaries of whoever leaves out of Pryce, Gardner, Flannery, Frodsham, Armstrong etc) and no one to spend it on. We're two props and at least one back short of competing for trophies. Negative? No, it's the reality of the situation. It's not time to jump off a bridge as we'll be above half way in the league no doubt, but is there any harm me telling it how it is?

Why, are you the type to eat pot noodle at lunch time?
Anyway, nothing wrong with sharing a conversation with a supporter of another team. Refreshing to hear something other than negative drivel. After all, the last time I looked, this was a fans forum.
Just out of interest, if you did win tonight, would you cheer up a little Saddened?

I'd run naked from the HJ to my house if we won tonight.

All 25 yards?
In all seriousness though, anything could happen tonight. If I were you, yes, I wouldn't be expecting a win. But to dismiss it as even a possibility like you have been is reverse psychology, at best!
