in terms of salary cap space, £130k isnt that much for a first choice international centre.

He's not quite a Marquee player though, and if the alleged "average wage" for a SL player is £60, it sounds a lot to pay him over double that.
Wage rate do have a slight exponential tend as they go up though, I suppose.

When you are talking 8% of a budget for 25 players its a significant amount, maybe its not for an Inglis, Lyon or Matai reputation but for a move that is based more on potential over proven outstanding talent it would represent a bit of a gamble.
I am for Shenton but at a decent price not held to ransom, can we not get Michael Jennings instead?

I know RL players are notoriously underpaid compared to football but that is very low

Its not bad, not for playing rugby, going to training etc.
If you finish at 30 you've still got time to start a new career, especially if you've invested the time to train while you're still playing.

Have I missed your sarcasm or have you missed your own typo? £60 is less than a week of Jobseekers!

| if the average is around £60k, then once you take into account the likes of Foster, Emmitt, Lomax, Wheeler, Armstrong, Dean, Ashurst, Dixon, Hargreaves, Fozzard you have 10 players who (in theory) will be earning probably half that amount each at most.
That would leave the average for the rest of squad at around £90k.

| The way I look at Shenton, hes young, hes english, hes got pace and hes got potential.
BUT when you consider hes signing as a replacement for Gidley, who replaced Lyon, hes simply not in the same bracket. Sorry, but thats true.
Thats not saying he wont be a successful player, but to put it simply, his signing doesnt fill me with the kind of excitement that someone like Jennings would.

But we have 'NO' chance of signing somebody like Jennings. You need a reality check.

You are right with Jennings, but we have manage'd marquee signings Lyon, Perry, Soliola were hardly at the end of their careers
Let us not forget Soliola will be a new signing next year as well so with Perry and the much rumored Shenton & LMS we have some very useful additions for 2011

I can't imagine another big name signing from Aus given Perry's already on his way.
Shenton isn't quite up to the level of Gidley, but is a welcome addition to the squad in my opinion. SL seems defence and forward orientated at the moment.
Where's the LMS rumour come from? Does it have any substance, or just is it just hearsay?

Right at the bottom, its Andy Wilson so I know it could be useless...
I know, I don't think we will make another huge signing, just highlighting that we can do when the right one is there. With Perry bagged and strong rumours about Shenton and LMS, combined with Soliola's return I do believe we'd have an excellent squad in 2011, I'd like to see Flannery get one more year too.
