To see that result? In a heartbeat.

| I can understand some of the Dummy-spitting that went on at the end, though I don't condoneit. We had our s well and truly handed to us on a plate last night. Longy looks an inspired signing for FC and a massive mistake on Mcmanus' part in letting him go.

We had Long last season and he didn't really make a difference. We're just not playing an attacking brand of rugby anymore. It's really boring to watch us these days and I don't think there's a quick fix for this.

first off the fans pay the players wages and they are entitled to boo a team that they feel is not performing! 2nd and more importantly this is about the only thing a fan can do to voice his opinion on how the team is playing or how a coach is preforming unless you go onto the pitch confront a player/coach go o.t.t and get banned from the stadium. booing by saints fans(and other teams too) is not becuase we did'nt win you moron its a way of voicing our thoughts on certain players not pulling their weight! get a grip la...

Sometimes a player needs a move and in Longs case a feeling of being rejected to get them motivated again and to get them back to playing the way they can. I don't think he would look the same player if he'd have stayed in a comfort zone at Saints as he will at Hull tbh. The same can be said of Deacon with us. He looks like he's starting his career again and just looks excited to be playing for a new club.
Saints made the right call in letting him go imo. Maybe the mistake was not replacing him even if it was just with a cheap squad player option to add competition in the halfs.

I would still rather see Eastmond at 7 than Long. People forget that Long played 7 for us last year and everyone was complaining about how clueless we looked and how Eastmond was our only spark.
Come the end of the year Eastmond will be running out at OT and Long won't. It'll take more than one defeat, first up, against a team that had played a full on first team friendly against their derby rivals, in bad conditions, with our players dropping like flies to convince me otherwise.

You took 10 points from 10 at the start of last season.
We finished 18 points clear of you and reached the GF.
Round 1 isn't the time for gloating.

| I agree with those who felt the booing was harsh. The fact of the matter is the nucleus of that Saints side who for years dominated the league is getting smaller. And jesus it was the [ifirst [/igame of what is going to be an extremely tough competition and the sooner your fans deal with that concept the better.
Every great side hits a transitional period at some point, and this is yours. I wouldnt lose sight of the fact that there are some very good young players in your team either.

It wasn't the first game. Yes, it was the first of the season but it was a continuation of the awful rugby league that we were playing in the final third to half of last season - and it is THAT which is causing many fans some problems. We want our old Saints back again - and that goes for the Saints of the 1980s when we couldn't win a bar of chocolate. It's the style of play we want back, win or lose. Also, there are enough classy players on the pitch in a red vee for us to be playing excellent rugby league if only the man in charge could coach it out of them instead of undermining it.

I understand your frustrations. I'm a Wire fan so thats easy enough. But my main point is the booing was harsh - even if your form did dip a little towards the latter stages of 09'. And on Saturday, the weather was horrendous! Plus Hull have assembled a very good side, and injuries were taking their toll on you during the game. That was noticeable.
As far as Potter goes, not being a Saints fan limits my potential opinion of him. I think the problem he had to begin with is that his biggest threat was a Leeds side who as far as I'm concerned, had already started to take the mantle of being best SL team even during Daniel Anderson's final days at Saints. However, if Eastmond clicks, and once the pitches toughen up, Im pretty confident Saints will still be pushing the top spot. I certainly wouldnt formulate an opinion based on a foggy february evening result which in theory, had Long stealing the spotlight written all over it in the first place. And I honestly think that this is what many are doing on this thread, not necessarily yourself mind.

| Some people who come on here are as thick as two short posts (i.e the orginal poster) or failing that sanctimonious little darlings who probably like to remind everyone that they have see there side through 'thick and thin' including watching their reserves at Batley.
The simple concept that just about every fan outside Saints fails to grasp is that people are booing because Potter is the Alladyce of Rugby league.
Like those at Newcastle, they are simply not prepared to put up with a coach who adds new meaning to boring, devoid and drab.
I could be more entertained watching Portico Panthers. The side is completely moribund under Potter and just about everyone has suffered a form drop.
The side need not be in transition as some claim. Players such as Eastmond, Wheeler and Lomax are the next internationals and look impressive enough.
Sadly MP's failure ot inspire will mean will will struggle to make the top 6 IMHO.
Older fans have always enjoyed the ball being thrown around - not always with success. The 1980's were a great decade for entertainment and match days was - shock, horror - fun.
I wish people would give their head a shake before they come on here anf post a pound of tripe.

| I suppose people are allowed their opinion if they pay to watch that display on saturday night. I just grin and bear it, after all it's only a game and they way the fog covered most of the pitch was hiilarious at best.
What does p!ss me off is that about 5 minutes before the game all the glory hunting p!ss heads come in and obscure the view. This is why I think after twenty odd years of watching saints I will wait till the new stadium opens. So put the attendance down by 2, me and the wife. That should cheer the attendance mad pie heads.
