I think the contract length is OK, but I worry abot the club's ability to afford him in 12-18 months time should he kick on.

Is it not a two year extension?
That would give him in effect a three year deal.

So after all that he has signed a one year extension in effect.

A 3 year deal would have been more sensible to stop the rumour mongering that will certainly continue throught this year.

The simple fact I say he is unproven is that yes he's played first grade games for Saints but the substantial amount have been either as a sub or in the centres... Yes he is proven playing wise but I still class him as unproven as a week in week out number 7... thats all.

Two year deal is the best thing for the club. If Kyle doesent make it as a scrum half then he will be a waisted talent imo and from what i'veseen of him, he just cant direct a team around the pitch. If he improves he'll sign another deal, if he fails he'll be off!

No point giving him a mega deal over 5 years as this kid hasn't played scrum-half week in week out, this deal gives him chance to prove he's worth more and gives Saints chance to see if he's worth it without getting tied in for a substantial amount of time

His reserve games, occaisional appearances for the first team and his performances for his country are enough indication.

All signings/contract extensions are a risk, but we have to go with our best instincts to ensure we don't lose the country's best talents to Rugby Union.
