Another solid effort from Lomax tonight. I hope he stays fit because he can make the grade if you progresses.

He seems a good kid to me, gets his head down and gets on with it, seems reliable and looks dangerous, still not in his favourite position but i'm not missing Gardner

Personally thought he was a bit hit and miss tonight.

Both trys were scored down his wing, both from kicks, one a crossfield kick he dropped, the other a kick and chase for which he got outpaced on. If Gardner had done the same, these boards would have been full of people slagging him off. Still its all part of the learning process for Jonny. The important thing is Lomax is getting game time and is not disgracing himself on the field which is no mean feat for someone of his tender years.

The first try was a kick hacked on by Wakefield. After a little kick behind that caught everybody out.

The second try he dident drop it. The Wakefield winger knocked the ball back to his centre who scored, Saints typically cannot react in those situations. Good skill from the Winger and certainly not Jonnys fault.

I'd agree but I wonder how much that was an after-effect of his head knock? If not in actual recovery terms then in confidence terms? It must be a difficult injury to come back from given his history. I would have preferred it if he hadn't played last night and instead had some time to recover properly.

The kid just needs to keep his head down and concentrate on eliminating mistakes. Forget the flashy stuff for a season or two. That'll come naturally when he gains confidence.

It was Jonny who got the head injury but it wasn't whilst playing for Orrell (where headguards were compulsory). I believe it was whilst playing for his school (Rainford) which is why he wasn't wearing a headguard.

I'm quite sure a scrum cap wouldn't prevent a fractured skull, though (i'm don't know if that's what you were getting at).
