| Quote: Top Saint "Why the obsession with buying anyone? We have Makinson and Swift to play there. Also wing is not a position I would personally spend much cap space on anyway as it is the perfect position to blood young backs from the academy. These players will get first team experience without the full on pressure of the more central positions.'"
No obsession mate. I just rather saints started to replace players every now and then. Every man and his dog knew that finding players to replace the likes of long, gidley, scully, pryce and KC would make or break our immediate future.
I'm all for youth but we can't keep saying we don't need to replace this player and that player because of youth because its back fired so far.
Tyrer - the next Jamie Lyon
Ashurst & Dixon to be the backrow for 10 years.
Lee Gaskell to replace pryce
Eastmond to replace long
Emmitt - the next James Graham
How many games as swift played exactly? Who's he played against? If your so sure based on few games against mediocre teams then you should be scouting for saints.

| I have no problem when fans demand class replacements for the main pivot positions. Youth players capable of playing those positions will have played many first team games, in less pressure positions, and proved that they have the ability and can handle the pressure. However, for the reasons I gave earlier, wing is not a position I would personally spend any major cap money on, unless the player concerned has come through our own youth system. Even then it would not be mega money.

I think he has shown promise in that position and should have been given more game time against better opposition. That way we could all have made a more balanced judgement. As it is, we have had a taster and it has left us wondering could he be our next full time winger.
As for being a scout
I'm happy letting the current scouts find the next generation. They are doing a far better job than I, or anybody else on here, could possibly do.

Do you not think its a risk if swift turns out rubbish ?
A few games doesn't make you a automatic replacement for meli. We've signed the best cross field kicker in the world and will have two wingers that ain't even 6ft if swift plays there.

The simple fact where youth is concerned is that there is no guarantee of success. How the young players progress is as much down to the players attitude as it is their ability. If he has the right attitude he will be a good player. His ability will determine whether he will be a great player. I would like to see more of him to see if he has both attitude and ability. He may have, he may not have, but one way or another we need to see more of him.

I just think taking a risk on a untried youngster is massive gamble in our current squad. We need to replace with quality at the moment to get back up there.

| I get both sides of this. Wingers are a bit of a luxury at the moment. But the player drain effect is also emphasised by this..
IF we get a 6 and a prop or 2. Then I have no issue waiting another year for a winger.
If we get no winger, no 6 and no other props. If Masoe and Walsh are it then the numbers in and out seam to not match up.
TP/Meli/Perry/Wellens/ Gaskell / Ade / Laffranchi??
Masoe/Walsh/Beaumont/ The other fella???

| The problem with Swift is unless he goes full time it is a waste of time. I feel he may decide to edge his bets and go to Leigh as a semi pro and keep his job. The only other option I suppose is a two year sabbatical if aerospace agree.

| I'd rather have kept Meli over Gardner but what do you expect. Hopefully we'll see Swift and Makinson on the wings next year I doubt it.

I've not heard his name mentioned at all by anyone other than the rumour on here. I know we've defo signed Beumont tho.

| The one strength Ade does have is to attack the cross field bomb. May have been the reason we have kept him and let Butterfingers leave.

I'm surprised we ain't looking at a tall winger that's good in the air. Walsh is amazing at the cross field kick.

Exactly, we need to exploit his best skills! Having a great kicking 7 and a slow Gardner on the wing is pointless
