Quote Judder Man="Judder Man"Sometimes it takes SaintsFan a little bit longer to come around to our way of thinking. When we post our opinions and find out perhaps we have not got a majority viewpoint as other posters, we usually rethink and usually "back off" from the topic. '"
But that is because a lot of people will go along with the majority for reasons other than they actually agree with them. They are just not willing to stand out as different.
Quote Judder ManSaintsFan carries on regardless leaving no avenue to escape from, which ends up in tit for tat messages. '"
I do for a while and then give up but that is because I believe in what I am saying and I'm not afraid to be in the minority. Being in the minority does not equate with having made an incorrect assessment. Sometimes it does; sometimes it doesn't. Take defence and discipline, two issues I have spoken about a lot on here. (And I use discipline in its broadest sense to include taking care of the ball, being onside, etc, as well as not mouthing off to the ref or getting yourself sent off) I expressed concerns about these elements of Potter's coaching before he came here because of what I'd seen of the Dragons. While taking into consideration that the culture of his previous club would have been different to Saints as each club is unique, I expressed those concerns and continued to do so when I began to see our own discipline and defence deteriorate as his influence on the team grew. I think now probably only Lump and Vee would disagree that our defence and discipline isn't anything like what it was under Anderson, for example. Yet when I first expressed those concerns I was in the minority and many on here took the pi$$.
I learned a long time ago to stick with what I believe in and if I'm wrong I will look a prat but if I'm right no-one will remember or give credit, but at least I will know that it is worth sticking with what I believe in rather than compromise for the sake of the majority approval.
Quote Judder ManAnyway, back on topic. What concerns me is all these signings that Bradford Bulls have made, do we assume Mick Potter is in on this with his future club and possibly not 100% focussed on Saints during the play offs, ie already working for the Bulls in some limited capacity.'"
I don't think it will make much difference to be honest. I think Friday night showed us that Saints are very motivated for the Grand Final this year. If they work as hard as a team in the semi like they did on Friday then they have a good chance of beating the opposition if we have Smith to organise them and hopefully Lomax partnering him (I hold out less hope for Eastmond). I think Potter would be an idiot to play Wilkin at 6 again with a returning Lomax or Eastmond when we have a much better option available in Smith.
