One fumble? He made six errors For comparison, Dawson has made 9 in 13 matches this year...
However, one bad game as a youngster doesn't make Fleming a bad player! He carries the ball well enough but seems very slow. You'd expect him to be better at centre, but I think he needs more experience on the wing before being ready to play centre at Super League level. For anyone who watches the u19s, what are Fleming's best attributes at that level? Your first few times you play first grade, I'd imagine all you focus on is not messing up.

One bad/terrible game gets you a new contract in his case then?

I'd imagine consistently good performance at u19s level, mostly competent performance at first grade level, current skills and potential for future progress in the eyes of those qualified to judge it gets you a new contract in his case. But that's a bit boring

| I haven't seen enough of Davies to comment, but he doesn't seem to be worrying the first teamers in the way Savelio or Greenwood have done.
Charnock I really like as a player so happy with him getting a new deal. He'll be vital for us over the next couple of seasons if Roby starts to break down, which presumably he has to at some point.
Fleming is a really strange one for me. We're already more than covered in the outside backs by totally average players in Dawson and Peyroux, so not sure what Fleming offers? He's really slow, really clumsy and I just don't see where he could ever get into a Super League side position wise. Too slow to be a winger and not big enough to be a Carney-esque crash ball winger, not incisive or direct enough to play at centre, and weak defensively. I'd have had him down as being released and getting a gig in League 1 potentially if I had to call based on his first team appearances to date.
His deal is a further reminder of McManus's total comfort with 'okay' as the benchmark.
Having said that I might be wrong, he might have potential and I'm just not seeing it. That can happen with players, I'll admit I didn't rate Greenwood much when he first came through and his development proved me wrong.

| Saddened, your worries re Fleming echo my worries re Fleming. He has hardly set the world on fire in his appearances.

I feel like that might be a bit harsh on Fleming. We've only seen him play 7 games, and 6 foot and 93kg at 19 years old means he has fair potential to be a Carney-esque winger, even now Carney only has half a stone on him. It does make the Dawson contract very strange though, unless the club see Fleming's future at centre. I don't think you can call his deal that at 19. Maybe 2 years down the line but physically he has potential and the coaching staff have obviously seen dramatically more than us. I'd say a 1 year deal indicates potential without him currently looking like a superstar.
I've seen nothing of Davies, but again he's only 19, and he played for England u19s this year so he's clearly highly thought of at that age generally, not just at Saints. With regards to comparisons with Greenwood, Davies turns 20 in November while Greenwood turned 22 in March. That's a decent amount more development Greenwood has, and Greenwood has only really solidified himself as a first team player this year.

| Saints don't half time some of their announcements well.
I think the fact they've all been given just 1 year deals suggests Saints see something in all 3 but not enough to commit long term and are probably in the situation of 1 more year to prove yourself category.
I'd like to see more of Charnock, he's shown glimpses of talent.

Right now it seems like playing Charnock means either dropping Roby (not going to happen) or some kind of mid-game rotation of Roby, maybe to loose forward (possible - but likely?)
The fact that he's not been given more of a chance at halfback given our successive calamities doesn't suggest that he's much of a ball player. Which is a bit of a problem when you think about it because many modern hookers have, or are capable of, time in the halves.
I have to say that I really do like his defence. But unless he's capable of something more aren't we saddling ourselves with little more than another McIlorum-type grafter who can neither scoot nor perform some magic with the ball?

| With Wellington and Grace, it will be good to see actual Welshmen playing for Wales in a few years.
