| As not a fan of either side, i found it highly amusing, its not cheating, he caught the thing, if he'd dropped it off the bat then maybe, but he didn't, likely more of the sweat on his arms, as the ball isnt a sponge it wont have retained much if any of the water put on it by the time he caught it. If he hadnt knocked on it wouldnt be an issue. Its not a flat item so the water has no where to sit lol, funny as.

| The ball was lost because it was a very good aggressive tackle. Smith looked fine catching the initial kick off.

Where have you read that?

| Now that's a trick Tommy God would be proud of.
Have not seen it myself and not entirely sure where it fits in the rule book. Maybe unsportsman like conduct as I doubt there is a rule for it.
But either way he caught the ball.

| Wello flatly denied this on Twitter. I just can't see him doing it.
I first heard about it by watching the match on Sky when the Sky pundits brought it up. I don't think that was good form from them. After all, at that point it was just allegation, nothing proven at all.

They did just say that it was being investigated though, I think. But it is strange that they said it and never tried to show it on their many cameras dotted around the stadium.

| No problem with it at all. Certainly shouldn't be banned. If they want to make a rule up now and say if it happens from now on then it's a one game ban, then fair enough. But it was just Wellens being clever.

| Quote: saint at wire "After their first drop goal, Wello was drinking water and then he poured it over the ball which was in place for the re-start. Lo and behold a wigan player caught it and immediately coughed it up in the tackle that followed.
I thought it was very funny but he might face a fine or something. At the time I thought it was Wilkin that did it.
I saw it happen and I thought it was Wilkin that did it. Was laughing when they spilled the ball.

| Unrelated, but it reminds me of the Aussies getting angry at James Graham covering his legs in vaseline last season!

| On a very hot day, covering a modern ball in water before its kicked 45 metres through the air, caught, then passed to another player? There can't have been much moisture left on it, can there?
Not sportsmanlike, certainly, but no more than a talking to.

| Quote: Saddened! "When exactly did this happen? The Wigan fans are in uproar about it, but I can't see how, with a waterproof, plastic coated ball in those conditions, the water would survive on the ball?'"
Nice exaggeration. A minority of the less educated Wigan fans are in 'uproar'. Most are indifferent and a few are even applauding the tactic.
Leeds are also under investigation for the same thing. I doubt there is a rule against it so little will come of any investigation unless of course the RFL are true to form and charge Wellens with breaking the 'spirit' if the rules.

| It was mentioned in Wanes interview directly after the match. He thought it was Wilkin.
