| If our defence is spot on then wigan can't score. It is then down to us to be able to get over their line. I know we have struggled to score these last few games but I am sure we can overcome that. Have faith.

You can't be serious???
Don't you recall his press conference when he joined the goons about how he had always supported them as a youngster???
Millward inspired attack was also combined with Millward style defence - rose tinted spactracles me thinks
Can't see Big Mac welcoming him back with open arms

| why is millward suddenly getting all the praise for our attacking style? st helens r.l.f.c have been playing fast flowing entertaining rugby league since jim sullivan took over in 1952! although we have'nt been a very successful team over the years the entertaining rugby is a trade mark of ours. even from my youth in the 70's and especially in the 80's[i(you young un's have no idea what is was like to stand on the terraces and watch some of the drivel i've seen&get hammered by the pies almost every game!)[/i when saints got it together they could beat any team in the country but we were never professional(sic) enough but we still played with our trade mark style. i'd say that mcCrae, millward&anderson have instilled the consistent winning&professional mentality to saints but the "its just like watching brazil" r.l started way back

I'd have to kinda disagree a bit - I'm not that young and I remember the mid - late 80's and beyond and although we tried to serve up good Rugby we normally just managed crap. We played with some flair some times BUT nothing like with Millward. With Millward we had players moving all over the park expressing themselves and making things happen - sometimes this went right and sometimes it didnt but the quality of players we had meant we could pull it off.

Sorry, I have to disagree. I started watching Saints in 1987 and we were always the entertainers. A lot of the time it went wrong but from 1987 to 2005 it was an accepted fact that, on our day, nobody could throw the ball about and play such entertaining Rugby League as Saints, even if we weren't so great in the results business.
The entertainers tag ceased when Millward left, I'll give you that.

| I was a Millward fan, and remember staying behind for an hour after a cup game, in the peeing down rain, protesting about his sacking.
Yet days later he was sat at the same table as Maurice Lindsay and Dave Whelan smirking and smarming and stating that it only took him five minutes to deicide to join Wigan.
Yes, he played an entertaining brand, shown passion, and has great charisma, but his results aren't all they're cracked up to be.
Remember the thrashings we took at Bradford? The one at Leeds, his abysmal record against Wigan? And his record at Wigan, where he almost guided them to a glorious relegation?
Millward had the best players this club has ever had, in the peak of their careers, and had them playing decent stuff, I'd say his the trophies he won was about par for the course.
He is not the tactical genius people make him out to be.

I'd be more confident now with him in charge than I am with Mr Anonymous himself, Mick Potter in charge. Lets face it, Potter is a non entity.

Who is this Mick Potter we speak of? Last time I checked we didn't have a coach although there is a awesome statue of a Aussie fellow they wheel up to the stands on game day... sturn face and not an ounce of movement
I think I miss a bit of charisma too... I'd love to see Harry Potter run onto the HJ turf and jump on Cunninghams back infront of the Saints speccies!

Have to agree with that.
Was a boy watching in 84 when we had the likes of Harry Pinner, Chris Arkwright, Neil Holding, Roy Haggerty and of course big Mal. We liked ot cuck the ball around then, and although we really were 'and rags at times, we were fun to watch.
Saddened is right that the current rugby is dull. We have the style and speed of a darts player.
People on here are saying defence this,d efence that. true. But Wigan's defence looks very good, so we will need something creative to win the match.

I'd agree with that tbh - we just seem to be getting more and more dull to watch

We were nosediving under Millward, some of the rose tinted specs about the latter part of his tenure never cease to amaze me.
We finished top of the table in 2002, 4th on the ladder in 2003, 5th in 2004 - he was doing a far worse job than Potter when he was rightly dumped (after which we finished top for 4 years straight)
