Not to derail this but I thought Bostik could play a bit but more often was asked to play centre......nostalgia no doubt.

I'm not saying he didn't deserve punishment but just a point, we see high tackles go unpunished every game, so what makes the severity of Meli's worth 8 games, when Con Mika got away with the dangerous tackle on Flanagan... that now we know has ended his season. I think the consistency and priorities of the RFL are ridiculous!

Did you see what happened to Hall's head after Meli hit him? He could easily have died there, the contact was horrendous. It has to be a severe ban, not that it matters as he'll be injured for longer than his ban anyway.

While if indeed Flanagan's injury was caused by a cannonball tackle (Was anything said by Brown/Saints at the time? I don't remember), the tackle was not life threatening. Meli's most definitely was and so Meli should be punished accordingly, even though he didn't do it deliberately. The sport can't be seen to tolerate recklessness when it so clearly puts the life of a player at risk. IMO obviously.

Not like you to over-react where Meli is concerned . . . .

Did you see the tackle? When a head snaps back like that, there is a real risk of a broken neck, and broken necks can result in the recipient being a deceased person.

As for Meli, he deserves his four match ban. Personally, of course, I would have banned him just for being Meli and making that forward pass after other players had worked bloody hard to get out of our ingoal.

Necks snap back on impact in most big hits.

I 100% think it was a shocker and IMO deserved 6 match ban but its laughable to say his life was at risk.

Indeed. But this wasn't simply a big impact. It was a direct hit on the neck with force sufficient enough to dislocate Meli's elbow, and if you don't think such force is sufficient to consider it possibly life threatening then that is what is laughable.

Maybe he should be done for attempted murder then.

Its a physical game, head shots, punch ups, headbutts etc happen every now and then but its all part of the game and players know what to expect.


Even the very basic tackle can cause serious injury. I lost a friend who broke his leg playing rugby and died on the operating table.

Its a tough sport.
