| Quote: Charlie Sheen "I can see both sides of the argument. If someone came into your work place and started rollocking you after 2 minutes you'd be pretty annoyed.
However, in RL terms sometimes you see players signed by clubs and instantly command respect and become part of the leadership group within that team because of what they've achieved. It happened when Peacock signed for Leeds, Morley signed for Salford, Ellis signed for Hull. Johns at Warrington. These were players that had done it all within the game. Here we're talking about Travis Burns for FFS, and I can guarantee you had Roby, or Wilkin done what Vea did there's no way Burns would've reacted the same way.'"
Precisely. Burns showed the right kind of fighting spirit following the error in question. And his outburst appeared to work since Vea cut out the sloppy play thereafter. But this does not make him A or THE club leader. Not yet. Guys like Wellens simply won't tolerate anyone exceeding his authority with only two games under his belt. I'm not sure some of the senior players would tolerate too many on-the-pitch trashings of the kids, either. They are a very protective lot.
Travis just needs to do what he's doing. Keep his head down. Play his game. After a season or two his teammates will show him the respect his performances deserve. Or not.

| I was gutted when you bought Burns as I really rate him and the gulf in class between himself and Chase is massive. He is a great aggressive player whose passing is brilliant. He will be a star for you lot.

No, No this is exactly what you don't want, you want Burns to have his head above the pulpit, he is a pivotal player and is very much involved in the team set plays, he needs to "voice" communicate to his team mates how the game plan develops. If that means rollicking someone then so be it, forget about a season or two.....................its now.

Have standards of English language suddenly dropped around here, or is the decline a more protracted affair? When I say [i"keep his head down and play his game"[/i surely people don't need me to EXPLICITLY QUALIFY THIS STATEMENT IN BOLD LETTERS AND SAY THAT I DON'T LITERALLY MEAN HE SHOULD PLAY WITH HIS HEAD DOWN AND NEVER SPEAK TO ANYONE.
SURELY I DON'T NEED TO EXPLAIN WHAT I MEAN BY THIS PHRASE?
Quote: Judder Man "If that means rollicking someone then so be it, forget about a season or two.....................its now.'"
If he rollocks James Roby or John Wilkin for dropping a pass tomorrow there will be trouble. That is the LAST THING Travis Burns should do.
And he won't.
Because he's not stupid.

| We won the title without being a team of jumped up shouters. It's not something we need. Our players are professional enough to not require beating around the head when things go wrong.

Surely that's calling plays though? Something that isn't being discussed.
I'm not sure why people are comparing Travis Burns coming from HKR where he didn't set the world alight into a club that's just won the title to Tim Sheens going to a club either. One is coming in as a coach, one is coming in as an equal. Same with the management job.
It sees that some people are arguing the person rather than the discussion point.

Bobby Goulding had a similarity to Burns, bit of indiscipline, niggly and mouthy, he was only here 5 mins and he use to rip into players. We also had a few others in Sculthorpe, Martyn and others.
When these type of players dissapeared we became a "quiet team" and during this long period won Zilch, personally I,m all for more vocality between players, this is more positive than negative and keeps the team focussed and avoids malaise.

| Hang on a second. Paul Sculthorpe didn't say boo for the first two seasons at the club. It was only when he fleshed out and we started experimenting with him at stand off that he began to voice his opinion.
In other words - he [i"kept his head down and played his game until he'd earned the respect of his peers".[/i
If Goulding's mouth was the answer I dread to think what the question might be.

Sculthorpe was what? 20 when he joined? I like a few on here are tipping Thompson as a future captain of the club but that doesn't mean he'll be yelling at anyone.
A much more obvious example comes from across the hill: do you think Trent Barrett said nothing when he joined Wigan because he had to pay his dues? What about Blake green?
Edit: iPad autocorrect sculthorpe to Shorpe!

You mean, the Paul Sculthorpe who was made Warrington's captain age 18?

If Trent Barrett repeatedly resorted to the hair-dryer with senior players I don't recall it.
