If we give up on London then IMO we give up any hope of ever being a major sport in this country. Maybe a lot of fans would be happy to keep 'our' sport in our little section of the country where we keep ourselves to ourselves and maybe that's what us as fans deserve anyway, but it's not what the sport deserves. Unfortunately, it's what we're going to get with the attitudes of the majority.'"
Absolutely.
But be careful of semi-literate flamers who take offence when you point out their parochial perspective might not be shared by everyone.

And you and certain others epitomise everything that's wrong with the post-industrial poo-hole which is St Helens. It's full of shaven-headed, chromosomal-deficient, tattooed knuckle-draggers with chips on their shoulders, anger management issues and a depressing line in inverse snobbery.
And that's said as someone who was born in St Helens and has lived here for over 40 years.

So i Epitomise everything that is wrong with St Helens because i disagree with you about giving London a chance or because i used such foul language in my feelings for it.
There's only 2 people from St Helens that show themselves up in this thread and i certainly aint one of them, that ugly git lurking as a reflection on your laptop is thou.

Mate, why the attitude? I was born in St Helens but have lived in Berkshire since leaving uni eleven years ago. And guess what? I can see that the broncos are a basket case too.
You're blaming parochial attitudes, when the simple fact is that the broncos are a miserable failure and getting worse year by year.
Something needs to be done. I'm not saying pull out of London, but carrying on in this vein does more harm than good.

I worked in London for a long time with radio, and I was at the first Fulham game and missed very few games home and away since, I have sponsored many London players and Academy players, match balls etc, in football I have supported West Ham United since I was at school, ran one of the then England players fan clubs when I was at school, which became the largest in Europe, No I'm not disgraced in the least.
The only slight disappointment is seeing the game I was born into being run so badly and amateur, if London does fail due to the small minded attitude then I will not follow the sport any longer, it's been expensive following London and West Ham anyway.
No loyalty I wonder how many St Helens residents travel to Everton or Liverpool and why so many travel from London to Manchester United?

| Sorry giving up on London. What are we the local charity or a competition. In competition you have winners and losers.
If London lose in competition, then they face the same as everyone else. If they go bust and no one wants to buy them they face the same as everyone else.
In the end it's the communist principles of the RFL should do something to save everyone that will be the end of the game.
Did the Premier league run to the aid of Leeds United. No.
Did they run to the Aid of Portsmouth. No.
In football you stand on your own 2 feet. The development of the South in terms of Amature RL being linked to the life blood of the Broncos is as false as the never made threat that SL is only funded by Sky because of the Broncos.
In the end they are a RL club and so should be afforded the same oppertunities and responsibilities of every other RL club. The opening post simply was pouring a light on the people who moan about Saints, showing how we are not in as bad a situation as others and maybe some perspective was required. As for the rest of this thread, I am far from happy with the childish bickering, the attempts to get around the filter.
And the questionable tone of some of the comment. Had you replaced the words Lancastrian, with any nationality, some of the comments would have been hammered for being racist.
If you can't comment without dragging down the tone, then don't. Whether it be alcohol induced or not.

Not sure what your problem is? but you have a very bitter attitude, we have many visitors on our London forum such as Roy H but they are shown respect, is he a troll then? you need to grow up! I except others opinions and respect them but it does not stop me fighting my corner for something I believe in.
Yorkshire clubs will only ever look after themselves! a couple of days ago we talked about Hull robbing Gateshead of a licence, what about Huddersfield robbing Sheffield Eagles? then lets consider the RFL propping up and purchasing the ground of Bradford for them? is the RFL a charity bewareshadows?

Whilst the current London Broncos aren't exactly breaking our southern glass ceiling, it doesn't mean they're doing nothing and certainly doesn't mean that they couldn't do a much better job.
Now, down under, Melbourne are partly owned by the ARL. Wouldn't it be an idea to find a backer, or negotiate with the current owners in order to create a situation where the RFL are taking some of the responsibility for the running of the club?
We're constantly reminded that London are there to benefit the game, so shouldn't the game try and benefit London?

Completely correct! what I have been saying for many years, but people choose to ignore it.
I was once interviewed by Maurice Lindsay and Rathbone at Wigan, it was around the time that Maurice had the idea of Super League, well I came away from the interview and I could not fault him with his enthusiasm but I knew back then it could be never carried out with Maurice, now we have someone like Wood who I am told was not that good as a club secretary even at Halifax running the game? it is any wonder we can't attract big money sponsors, clubs themselves are afraid of Change! and never wholeheartedly go for it, the changed to Super League really worry me, no thought just ideas ripped off Scottish football.

| The reality is though the club needs a bloody good shake up. I hope the club does not fold but somehow can reinvent itself away from the stoop. However I remember Kent Invicta folding, that would cause me concern with Gillingham and I don't see many alternatives springing to mind. Perhaps the Skolars ground could be purchased and improved with the clubs coming together as Skolars but in super league.

I just feel that, like so often in SL, people sit back and expect the game to sell itself, whether it be to new speccies or to sponsors. I'm afraid it doesn't work like that.

The last sentence is key there. To what extent you believe that statement would be how you judge whether the RFL take responsibility for running the club.
We all know that RL clubs are in the main blackhole into which money is poured and virtually nothing can escape.
The RFL taking a share in a club creates a conflict of interests. As the RFL decide who should be in which competition. You can see the law suits coming if there was an occasion to remove a club from a league and if that club was in competition with London well the lawyers would have a field day.
There is also the extent of the blackhole, should the RFL pump in? Should the cap be removed from London? Should London have unlimited funds? Should the RFL fund London to the point where they are a top 8 side again, a league winning side, till crowds top 10,000.
It's not a simple thing to say the RFL should control London, after all it is a competition, not a co-operative. Hughes has pumped in vast amounts season after season. I am not a person who would say London should not be in SL, as because as far as I am aware they have never been up for relegation. However I am dubious about the value placed on a London side to SL.
Gillingham maybe the answer for them and if it is great. But a club is not just about making a side, it's about history, about were you are from, or where your parents are from. It's what entertains to a point, but how many Saints fans go, despite the entertainment.
