Potter has done an incredible job this year in the circumstances, it's undeniable. That's not to say some of the latter category above won't try to, mind.'"
I liked DA and thought he brought saints on from taking over basil but I doubt DA would have done any better than potter.
If we are all honest, the last two years has prob been our worst squads we've had since super league started.
In the past we've left big names out of our 17, this year we've struggled to get at 17 on the field.
Potter still has some great players here but just look atthe diffrence in class potter has had to work with to our previous coaches.
Potter has never moaned about lack of signings he's been able to make, never moaned about injuries, he's just got on with the job.
His first season was pretty poor at times but I think the players and potter have now adapted to each other now and it shows on the pitch.

| Sometimes it takes SaintsFan a little bit longer to come around to our way of thinking. When we post our opinions and find out perhaps we have not got a majority viewpoint as other posters, we usually rethink and usually "back off" from the topic. SaintsFan carries on regardless leaving no avenue to escape from, which ends up in tit for tat messages. He/She does have some good observations/opinions though most of the time of late.
Anyway, back on topic. What concerns me is all these signings that Bradford Bulls have made, do we assume Mick Potter is in on this with his future club and possibly not 100% focussed on Saints during the play offs, ie already working for the Bulls in some limited capacity.

| So basically, Saintsfan has hatred for Mick Potter because he has no personality?
Jeez, I hope they are aware that Sizzler makes Potter look like the most charismatic person in history and thats before we even touch on what the West Tigers fans think about him.
I expect a "Sizzler out" thread to be started by Saintsfan, around January time.

Im sorry? I read through their posts on Mick Potter and this was the the only reason I could see why they dont rate Mick Potter?
Maybe we shouldnt have chosen Sizzler and instead got Simon Cowell. Who cares that we finish bottom, at least his post match interviews would be full of charismatic putdowns.

But that is because a lot of people will go along with the majority for reasons other than they actually agree with them. They are just not willing to stand out as different.

I do for a while and then give up but that is because I believe in what I am saying and I'm not afraid to be in the minority. Being in the minority does not equate with having made an incorrect assessment. Sometimes it does; sometimes it doesn't. Take defence and discipline, two issues I have spoken about a lot on here. (And I use discipline in its broadest sense to include taking care of the ball, being onside, etc, as well as not mouthing off to the ref or getting yourself sent off) I expressed concerns about these elements of Potter's coaching before he came here because of what I'd seen of the Dragons. While taking into consideration that the culture of his previous club would have been different to Saints as each club is unique, I expressed those concerns and continued to do so when I began to see our own discipline and defence deteriorate as his influence on the team grew. I think now probably only Lump and Vee would disagree that our defence and discipline isn't anything like what it was under Anderson, for example. Yet when I first expressed those concerns I was in the minority and many on here took the pi$$.
I learned a long time ago to stick with what I believe in and if I'm wrong I will look a prat but if I'm right no-one will remember or give credit, but at least I will know that it is worth sticking with what I believe in rather than compromise for the sake of the majority approval.

I don't think it will make much difference to be honest. I think Friday night showed us that Saints are very motivated for the Grand Final this year. If they work as hard as a team in the semi like they did on Friday then they have a good chance of beating the opposition if we have Smith to organise them and hopefully Lomax partnering him (I hold out less hope for Eastmond). I think Potter would be an idiot to play Wilkin at 6 again with a returning Lomax or Eastmond when we have a much better option available in Smith.

I have just watched a YouTube interview with our new coach and I rather liked him actually. He comes across as human. He smiles when he talks about Saints and sounds like he is genuinely looking forward to coming over here. His humanity may be his downfall, of course, but hopefully not. It's a very small town and I hope he's prepared to take the consequences of divided opinion.

No, no one disagrees that we aren't as solid defensively as we were. What the less intransigent posters amongst us accept is that Potter has had a far harder time with injuries and the forced use of inexperienced kids has had an effect on the defence. Potter has never had the luxury of leaving ex Internationals out of the 17, for example. You have never taken those factors into consideration, instead blaming Potter for pretty much all our faults.

I don't think anyone would suggest that Wilkin would be a better choice in the half backs than Smith. Ever.

[edited for accuracy]
As I clearly stated in my previous post, you don't agree with me over the issue of defence. I knew you and Vee would disagree.
I'm not going over it again though. I've stated my position previously, I remain of that view, and that's the end of the matter so far as I'm concerned.
I'm far more interested in seeing whether we make it to the Grand Final and, if we do, whether we win it and then in looking forward to next season to see what our new coach brings our way.
