Check the stats, you'll find you way wide of the mark but don't let that get in the way of a good old rant eh????

Playing the role he played on Saturday he simply isn't good enough. He isn't a creative half back, he isn't an organiser or a primary kicker. Him and Tomkins together = disaster. One of them has to go and based on Saturday that means McGuire shouldn't play, no matter how much you love him.

Stats might tell you that he does pass and kick it. They don't tell you whether or not they are effectual.
For years, Danny McGuire has been the single most over rated player in the game. He offers little in the way of creativity and gets virtually all of his good press by hanging about on the shoulders of other players and sniffing out tries.
Danny McGuire has been fortunate enough to play in one of the best teams of the modern era. Had he played for a lesser side such as Wigan or Warrington, he would have sunk without trace long ago.

| For a while a lot of Saints fans hated Sinfield, and I'll never know why. He may be a cantankerous, gobby at times, but he is a traditional 13 in the mould of Pinner - tough, good vision and hard working.
And then there is Danny Sidewards... Oh dear. If ever there was an overated player.
The turnstille offers little organisation and little incision. He is a genuinely nippy half back, but is zero at the highest level.
Biased Saints fans spent an age defending Leon's no-show in last years WC. It seems there are a few Leeds fans out to defend Danny Sideways...

You have posted this elsewhere....its opinion you keep trotting out to support McGuire. He is not and never will be a stand off....again, opinion I am trotting out.....

Try assists do. Danny McGuire has more than any other Leeds player this season.

| In some ways I'm going to defend McGuire.
The England pack were poor early on, Peacock, Morley and Roby(with ball in hand) in particular.
It was only when Burgess and Crabtree came on that we started to go forward.
It's almost impossible for the halfbacks to perform when the pack is poor.
However, McGuire defensively was poor and looking at his stats in todays League Express 8 tackles made 5 tackles missed and 3 handling errors is poor by any standard, particularly when Lee Smith also missed 5 tackles and concede two penalties.
I actually felt sorry for Tom Briscoe as he was the sacrificial lamb.
Again I question Smiths selection, that starting pack was the same that got battered in Melbourne, and conceded the majority of the tries down our right hand side.
We badly needed a quick defensive second rower to shore up that side. The selection of Peacock in the second row was wrong, and contributed to McGuire and Smiths poor performances.

That shows how much you actually know about Danny McGuire - not much.
Truth is, McGuire was awful against Australia, and I was embarrassed about how ineffective he was.
This 'only a support player' thing is about five years old now...

I said pretty much the same thing. Smith was silly with the pack selection - it just encouraged the Kangaroos to put more air on the ball. The pack was sliding left, right and centre, esp. as the backs groped at more or less every tackle in the first half.
There is a need for mobility in the pack - look at Watmough - not the biggest, but a real worker who runs good lines and tackles everything.
The closest to this type of player is Wilkin, but he's not everyones cup of tea.

What a load of bollox!!
He's been as integral and influential in our success as any player in our squad other than sinfield.
What the stats tell you are he scores tries as well as creates them and in terms of over-rated
He was dire on saturday but so were others but don't let that get in the way of a rant full of bile.

I know he's a Wigan player so it may not go down well with some on here but we really needed someone like O'Loughlin to do that job.

There was no one as bad as Mcguire at the weekend. No one. He was so far out of his depth, I genuinely felt sorry for him. Look, we all know of his vast limitations, so why oh why, Smith put him in such a pivital role, god only knows.
