| Quote jaybs="jaybs"You must admit it was such a dour game! when I was perhaps aged 9 I just went to see my own team win, but these days I also want to see some good rugby played. The atmosphere in the ground was flat, except about 18 minutes in the second half and that soon faded? The Happy Whistler did not help, but then again we gave away so many stupid penalties.
Saints are in the top 4 which was essential for you, so it was never going to be an easy game, but I just expected more! yes we were not the same team that played Warrington, but then you do not seem a Warrington or Wigan!
Now we will be soon down to the silly time of the season, the play-offs second bite of the cherry if you do not win etc, this should be The Sky TV Knockout Cup and nothing else, a team that performs all the season should be The Super League Champions and recognised and rewarded in that way, my opinion!
'"
It was dour, but again we just have to put up with that for this season. We are stuck with Royce's (or Rush's) style of play until Nathan comes in. I'm personally happy to accept playing badly and finishing in a respectable position for now, given that this has been our worst season for some time.

Nah not having that.
You dont have to be the best to play entertaining rugby. You need a coach that wants to play it and that can coach It. We have players In that team to play the game the way It should be played, not like last nights depressing offering.
I might add that last night wasnt a one off either.

It looks like you wont be getting both of your wishes for next week - if Wakefield are still in with a shout of the top 8 after this weeks games - then they play Salford next friday - and they will be on TV and not Wigan v Saints.
Straight choice pay to see your team or support another......
Better practice your chants "Wakey, Wakey, Wakey"

Which we don't have unfortunately, because our previous coach had to be sacked when we were in freefall and we have two rookies at the helm as a result. Incidentally, two rookies that look like steering us to a table finish that was utterly unrealistic when they took over and doing so without a proper half back.

Whilst I agree entirely that we are not serving up entertaining stuff, there have been many, many years and teams that haven't shown anything like the commitment this lot show. They are not playing well, we don't have an all star squad, but what we do have is players who are committed to the team and will give their all to try to get us to OT (again) against the odds.
Until the effort falls away, I will support them 100%. Effort and pride in the shirt will outweigh a lack of champagne rugby because I can see the reasons why it isn't there (both in terms of personnel in key positions and inexeprienced coaching staff) and I've seen plenty of Saints teams in the past who rank waaaaaaaaay below this group in terms of heart.

| I went to last night's game completely down on RL, knowing it would be dreadful.
My tweet before the game "I almost forget Saints are playing these days when it comes to most Friday nights. Hope it's a decent game tonight but doubt it."
My tweet after the game "I didn't think Saints could be more horrendous to watch...And then I saw that tonight! Awful game and London were worse."
I am completely bored watching Saints and alot of other RL games this year. I've had a season ticket since 1996 and been going since 1993 and I've never been as bored as this season. Last season was also pretty dreadful and I'm hoping next year with a better coach we'll get ourselves organised and throw some more caution to the wind playing some good rugby. On paper, 30-0 is a great result but having been there to see it I got no enjoyment out of it. All our tries were barge over tries within their 10 or 20m line and London offered nothing! The most exciting moment for me was Meli throwing a dummy to himself. At least at the Cas game last time the two young kids Makinson and Swift showed some excitement with their length of the field efforts (a try and no try). Did Makinson even get a pass last night? What we churn out is dreadful and I see us making no impact in the Play Offs especially with the ball in hand.
In previous years we've always had a character in the team (or coaching staff) to excite us either with their personality or their style of play - James Graham, Paul Sculthorpe, Sean Long, Jamie Lyon, Ian Millward, Bobbie Goulding, Tommy Martyn, Paul Newlove etc etc. In this current team I don't see one player that genuinely excites me. Our team is full of grafters but no real excitement. I was always brought up on a Saints team, whilst not necessarily being the best, were always the ones who threw the ball about and lit up the league with entertaining rugby. Up until the last few years, we were exactly that, but especially the last 2 seasons, we've been awful to watch.
Whilst it's not the worst season in terms of results it's definitely the most boring I've seen and I know Warrington fans who feel the same about the league campaign itself.

Rush at the start of his tenure talked about playing the Saints way, then played safety first stuff.
Effort and commitment for me Is a given. Champagne rugby,Ill settle for mildly entertaining. I really would.
Weve defended well against teams that attack like we do,next week might be a different matter.
If I remember, the last time we played em there were screams on here and RedVee about the distinct lack of commitment and pride In the shirt.

| Quote wakey_saint="wakey_saint"Whilst we don't seem to be playing well at the moment, we were in a similar situation last year and look how that turned out in the playoffs...we seemed to coast last night not going all out at times but always knew game was in bag.
Silverwood didn't help, his constant whistle blowing for both teams stopped either really getting a roll on and that does contribute to it being such a poor game.
Even if we don't make it to OT this year, looks like a 3rd place finish in SL with 2/3 of the season being coached by an academy coach and a bloke with no prior coaching experience and I think that's a decent achievement...Especially when looking back to the bulls game at odsal when I said I would have settled for anywhere in top 6.
2012 has been a difficult year for us with moving to the new ground, not having a recognised coach etc and I think a better judgement on where we are going to be moving forward will be next year when NB comes in...just think we should try and stay behind the lads moving into the playoffs rather than slating them - after all I would take boring games all day long if it gets the job done and could bring the trophy home'"
The voice of reason. We've done a great job considering our situation after 8 games of the season. We're realistically in no worse a position for the playoffs than we were last season and although O/T is unlikely it's still not beyond the bounds of reason which is an achievement in itself. I've said for years that most Saints fans who scream from the rafters about our "lack of ambition" and acceptance of sub-standard are in desperate need of a few [ireally[/i bad seasons to reset their ridiculously high and unrealistic expectations. The problem is that only us old 'uns can remember what it's like to support an [iactually[/i bad Saints team back in the '80s - most on here have only ever known trophies and success and take a trophy a season as their birthright that doesn't need to be earnt and should just happen by default. We're way behind the curve as far as the W's are concerned but that's just the way it has to be sometimes in a salary-capped sport with limited talent, especially when you've just built a spanky new stadium. And we are tedious and awful to watch at the minute but it's winning us games and I will continue to support my team regardless and am grateful that things could very very easily be much, much worse.

| We really do seem to be stuck in some form of "neutral zone" at the moment playing basic safety first rugby which has worked against most teams with the exception of Wigan and Warrington.
My main concern is carrying this mindset over into the next season, its not Saints natural way of playing rugby.
The other concern is the development and utilisation of Makinson and Lomax and perhaps we should include Gaskell as well, they have stagnated and looked to have better potentional from last years viewpoint than this year.
We really do need a big change mentally and physically next season, I would be very suprised if we reach a grand final this year with our standard of play.

I've watched saints from the age of 6 and I'm now 32 but I was totally bored last night. It was one of the worst I've ever seen and ended up not even paying attention to the game.
It don't matter how much or how little you've watched saints, nobody can deny that was total rubbish last week.
I was very impressed with the London winger (Dixon?)

Me too, far more than the big lump Omari Caro on the other wing who it has been rumoured Saints have been after.
Would be typical of the modern day Saints to go for the big crap lad on the wing rather than the fast elusive type
Dixon has scored 14 trys for Broncos this season. So has a better strike rate than Makinson, despite being in a cellar dwellar team. Looks a better player as well.
Only turned 20 this month.
Got 41 tackle busts and 10 clean breaks to his name and made 2251 metres.
Weak points are errors with 26 and 28 missed tackles
Makinson for comparison is 21 years old, scored 10 tries, 25 tackle busts and 9 clean breaks and made 1585 metres
Defensively has 20 errors and 18 missed tackles.
When you consider that Makinson will not have been put under as much pressure defensively as Dixon due to London being rubbish then the error count and missed tackle count stand up quite well.
Dixon is definitely one to watch in the years ahead.

| I have heard Omari Caro is signing for HKR. It was he who won the fastest man competition recently at Headingley. I saw him play recently in London V Wigan U20's and he was really quick, scoring two superb long range tries, but he was very raw, particularly defensively.
I do like the looks of Dixon and Dan Sarginson from the Broncos, both look very exciting players.

I did like the look of Sarginson earlier this season, has a great step and turn of pace. But he was very quiet last night and has been in most games recently. Was a bit disappointed in him.
Dixon was a real livewire.
