| I was gutted for him the other night. Whilst a few of you are sat there denouncing him as injury prone, imagine how the lad himself must feel. He has so much talent, but every time he gets the opportunity to show it, he finds himself off the field with injuries.
As I said, I am genuinely gutted for him.

| I think the most likely scnario will be seeing his contract out and not being offered another one ( unless he can prove his fitness ). Seeing him in the changing room was such a sad sight and i hope he can come back from this.
To make a bit of a comparason Tommy Martyn played 90 games in 6 years,i wonder what the fickle supporters of today would of said about that now a days.

If you take an average of 30 games a year, for argument's sake. That would mean Martyn was playing every other game. Wheeler, on the other hand, is playing just one game in every three.
I'm not bagging the lad. But professional sport is a tough business, and if his body just isn't up to it, then that's a real shame for him, and for the club who won't benefit from his talent, but we're wasting cash on him at the moment.

You would have to be pretty heartless to not feel gutted for the lad.
But, unfortunately, he can't string 3 games together without picking up an injury and you have to take an objective look at this: how much longer can we continue to pay a player who has picked up so many injuries?
The lad has a contract, so I'd suggest getting him out on loan and telling him that he needs to prove his fitness in order to get back into the team. If not, then he cannot get a contract extension.

| I actually thought this was his last year.
However the point remains, the size of his contract is key here. Every year we have a 30 man squad, I think 12 have to be home grown players.
Better to have a quality, injury prone player, than just a player to make up the numbers. But if he's pulling down a big wedge then that theory does not hold.
I have nothing but good wishes for the guy but the club will have to make a decision at some point. Just hope it's the right one for him and the club.

The most sensible post so far.

You said earlier in the thread
You didn't sound gutted for him then.

| I am gutted for the lad. All you people on here who constantly have a go at him because of his injury record need to get a reality check. Do you think he gets injured on purpose? That he doesn't train to strengthen the week areas to avoid getting injured? This lad has bags of talent but unfortunately his body isn't strong enough for super league. That could change as he gets older but unfortunately Saints can't wait that long and he will probably have to leave. I for one hope he finds a club and a level where he can shine and make a career for himself.

Seems like we have a Sherlock.
How does saying the situation is a joke (i.e. the repeated injuries) and asking 'how many chances will he get' mean that I am not gutted for the lad? I do not see the connection.

Never known a player other than Fielden to get so many injuries?

Well I would have said that's curtains for the lad, but I thought his contract was up this year.
