| Quote: Rogues Gallery "Foster played centre to Shaun Ainscough in that two match series and Ainscough scored five tries. I commented at the time that Foster had timed his passes superbly to give Ainscough the opportunities.
The strange thing for me was that in the first game at Warrington he missed kicks that he would never normally miss and England academy lost the game, despite scoring more (or the same) number of tries.'"
Rogues in criticising young Saints player needlessly shock.

| It's over to you Mick Potter!!
Foster has earned more time in the team preferably alongside a class centre.
It's a balance between giving him experience and not over exposing him at this stage.
What I liked from his game against Leeds was the way, after tackles, in which he moved in quickly to acting half back, cleared out of the ruck the Leeds players who were lying on, and then proceeded to get things moving without any fuss.

That really depends if Meli displaces him in the next few weeks.
The record approaches 40 consecutive kicks doesn't it?

According to today's RL press, Meli is due back for the Magic weekend match, as is Gidley. So methinks Foster will have to wait a while to get his record!

| I heard about this guy kicking goals years ago.
I think Phil Clarke mentioned on sky that one of the trainers said we have a goal kicker that kicks goals like Jonny Wilkinson.
Or something along those lines.
He looks very promising. Hope we see more of him.

42 - Paul Drake for the Bramley Buffaloes in 2005
before that Hazem El Masri @ 35 I think.
It doesnt matter when Foster takes the remaining 27 kicks does it, as long as he doesnt miss one?

Henry Paul in 2001 with 35 (although there was some controversy, even Bulls fans said he missed one around the 28 mark but the flags went up!), El Masri I thought beat it, but apparently only equalled it. Barry Eaton of Batley got 38 in 2003. The Aussies claimed this doesn't count because it's not in the top flight of RL in this country.
As for Paul Drake, just done a search, but can't find any articles to back up your claim of 42. If true that's a staggering achievement.
As for the rules, it probably should matter, a player could only take kicks directly in front of the posts and let someone else kick goals elsewhere and run up a tally of hundreds. If there isn't a rule preventing that, there should be.

Whys should there be? The records are meaningless - every player is bound to have kicks of differing difficulty in differing weather conditions. How do you regulate that so that the "records" are valid?
I'm sure it's nice to find yourself in possession of such a record, but making up rules to protect such a frivolous thing would be daft.

On that basis, try scoring records are meaningless because Danny McGuire / Lesley Vainikolo / Wingers and other positions in general aren't on an equal footing.
Without any rules at all, Gary Connolly could have the record with 142 consecutive kicks... Except he would still have missed directly in front.
Cripes, he was worse than Wellens was last year!
The only rule I would say is "if you're on the pitch you take the kick". Otherwise it counts as a miss. So if Foster is displaced for another player, as long as he kicks when he gets the chance his record continues. If, however, he is on the pitch and Eastmond takes a kick out wide, the record is ended.
(That's my opinion on what the rule should be, anyway)

'Rule'? It's a record that means nothing. You don't get any official award or prize money for it. If you want to claim the record and your club is unprofessional enough to let you do it like you describe then fine.

exactly.
its a nice personal record for a player to have, but it doesnt impact on anything at all. Why would Saints let him mess round with the outcome of games so he could keep a meaningless record in tact.

| Foster says it was his Granddad who taught him to kick. Was his granddad a pro player or anything? Whoever he was/is I think says should employ him to spread his kicking coaching around a bit.

| Ive know jamie, for years now as i was best mates with andy dixon growing up, and also played against foz and gary wheeler too many times to count. The boy is an absolute machine from all over the field, his kicks are scary. Saints should be very proud(as i presume you are) to have such great youth coming through. I know jamie dedicated his great performance to his granddad on sky, and it shows how grounded he actually is, as the boy really did learn the game from his granddad. Fair play to him, and as you have all said, i hope he continues his run in the side, and if he does, im sure hell come close to ruining those goal kicking records!
