| Quote: DHM "Why would slowing the PTB down reduce the skill in Rugby League? I'm interested to know. Genuinely.
Because, just playing Devil's advocate here, but if you make it too [ieasy[/i to make metres from a constantly retreating defensive line, wouldn't that vastly reduce the skill in the game?'" Slowing the PTB down will achieve, in time exactly the opposite. It will improve the quality of the game.
No longer will teams march up field with scoots from dummy half against a defence that cannot be set. It was getting like basketball. Roby was the games best player tother year. A failed half back who was nippy out of dummy half coming off the bench. Says it all.

But how long will this revolution take? If it carries on like last season, who will watch it?
And you may need to inform the teams of the plans, as none of them are attempting to do anything to break down defenses, preferring the safety of 5 drives and a kick and applying pressure. Yawn.

Yawn.'" as has been said already! Leeds have played some great attacking rugby in 07,08 and 09! Our attack has got better under bluey imo. I've also seen great attacking play from other teams in 09! I enjoyed this season very much! For me the comp is tighter than ever!
Again I'm not trolling but I think it's fair to say it's no suprise that the fans of the team that benefits the least from a slower play the ball are complaining the most!
I find it ironic that now the interpritation of the rules don't play into your hands as they did previous you are sending the rfl a pertition to change the rules!
you claim your on some crusade to save the game! when most fans of most clubs feel the comp is as open as it's ever been and was the best sl so far! As a Leeds fan watching my team and as a neutral watching sky I can honestly say I didn't once think it was boring!
as saints fans you keep going on about 5 drives and a kick! but it is a corner stone of our game and a must at times, to be honest I wish Leeds did it more at times instead of throwing it around so much! but from the outside looking in I think the 5 drives and a kick is an issue you have with the saints coaching staff!
you were more than happy with 5 scoots and a kick or 5 scoots and 5 attempts to milk a penalty.

Entertainment is a purely subjective thing. Certainly not transferrable across all frames of reference.
But if you are asking me - are you sick of Leeds and Saints playing out each and every GF then the answer is yes.

I think this thread simply displays the arrogance of fans of "the mighty S". Their team is going through a transition, their new coach has introduced a more rigid style of play and all of a sudden we need a petition to change the way the game is played.
Get over yourselves. You really are just a small town in Wigan who have over-achieved during the Sl era. You're not all that.

| I think it only goes to show how some people at other clubs never quite saw the entertainment that we used to see at Saints because if they have not noticed how utterly boring the fare is on the pitch then they must have had some pretty boring times over the years.
Forget this year's play-the-ball directive, for the last three years I have been saying it and 2009 just took the biscuit. The game is dull, monotonous and repetitive. I don't think there was more than two or three televised games that displayed any entertaining passages of rugby.
We cannot be accused of saying this because we haven't won anything because a trawl through the archives at Redvee will tell you that this was first flagged up back in 2006, when we won the lot.
There is no flair in the game, there is no pace and, unfortunately, good defences and good coaching has taken away all the individuality, craft and passages of open football and it has been replaced by seventeen robotic, functional performers, playing to a set strategy of playing it safe, driving it, making the odd scoot and kicking it, should we be fortunate enough to see them see out a set of six without an unforced handling error.
The Wales-England game summed it all up with not one entertaining try on show. Weight of pressure has now become the only way to score. Tries from your own half have become a thing of the past.
I don't care if Saints don't win anything for years. I don't care if we finish in the bottom three, I just want to go to a game and feel that I have watched the game I fell in love with. I just want to see some fluid passing movements, open rugby and some genuine flair.
Rugby League is now duller than Rugby Union. At least you see some flair in that game, some passing and some decent tries. You couldn't sell this game of Rugby League to even the most gullible of fools at the moment.

If people don't understand what he means then they are either under 7 years old or do not have a clue what an entertaining spectacle the game once was before Super League players were all turned into robots.

If you think modern day Rugby League is entertaining then you clearly never saw the game when it was.
If you find five drives and a kick exciting, good luck to you.
If you'd rather watch robots than flair players, I am sure you're happy.
If you want to see the players from the most repetitive league in world rugby get their bottoms spanked by the Aussies, year after year, because they are simply bigger than us and size is all that matters in the biff-bash era, then I'm sure you will be having the time of your life.

I want to see us compete internationally. That is what we're trying to achieve with slower PTB's. You appear to want to see basketball with your star player who couldn't make it as a half back coming off the bench after 20 mins and scooting away from dummy half.
None of this alters the fact that its' Saints who have altered the way the have played. Saints who have had a poor season. Saints arrogant fans who think that must mean the game is in some sort of turmoil.
I'd venture that had you not faced us in the last 3 Grand Finals this would not even be an issue.

Oh for goodness sake does this board have a complete lack of humour??
How on earth do you know how long I have/have not been watching rugby?
But I do maintain that there is still flair on the rugby league pitch. Amazing tries with wonderful passwork, stunning solo efforts and yes tries from sheer power and that is entertaining.
