Brilliant effort from Saints but they are a champion team, Leeds.

We weren't quite good enough...but if Amor could have gone over it would have been a different outcome.

Credit to Leeds.

Leeds were there for the taking tonight and Saints blew it. It seems some supporters accept being mediocre with dumb moves by some dumb players.

Considering the injuries, bravery and guts I can't say a bad word about them.

Try scoring with the watchstrap buckle never used to be close to a try. Perhaps we'll move to the radius bone at Old Trafford.

No point dwelling on it. Par for the course in this league.

Roll on next year!

One of the turning points was the tackle on the non ball carrier when Peacock through the dummy. Brian Noble said it was a very harsh penalty resulting in the try. Big effort from the pack with Makinson, Percival and Wilkin injured.

LOL stiffed by the video ref? Hall gets that ball down, the rules are with any part of the arm, he gets it down with his forearm. Might frown upon that being the rule, but it's a rule nonetheless. Leeds won fair and square.

Great game. Two good sides. Not much between them can't complain really.

We had our chances Leeds had theirs in the end a goal kick between us.

A fair result.

Some big efforts tonight.

Sinfields 40/20 turned it for me.

what a cock, nothing wrong with the try, as someone else said in this thread Leeds hung on and the 40/20 turned the game

Headingley wasn't quiet...Sky had turned the volume levels right down, possibly because they feared the usual "referee/Phil Clarke is a ..." chants.

And the video ref got it right according to current rules. Worst decisions of the night were missing the Amor knock-on and linging McGuire for a marginal offside on his line when Saints were further offside most of the night.

For me there were four key moments in that game. The two most obvious were Walsh's missed conversion and that brilliant 40/20 by Sinfield. The other two both involved poor decisions by Jon Wilkin (who I must say had a great game overall). The first was halfway through the first half. We were on top and had a set in the Leeds 10 and JW booted it dead on tackle 3. Straight from there we conceded a penalty and then Leeds were on top for the rest of the half. The second was with 5 mins to go. We'd been in our own 20 for a while and had made our way to Leeds's 40. Instead of putting a kick up and turning the screw on Leeds he threw a speculative long pass which turned out to be forward. We never got a look in after that. Small things, I know, but in matches like that they can be the difference.

I can't complain, though. It was about as well as we've played all year, and we had season best performances from Vea and Amor, as well as some heroic efforts from obviously injured players.

A great game, and an end to our season that probably offers a genuine reflection of where we are as a team: nearly there, but not quite.

I thought it was symptomatic of Saints whole season - Positives were great guts and character, a usually good kicking game and a good scrambling defence. Negatives were not quite enough go-forward from the pack (I suspect the stats will show we made fewer metres per carry than Leeds), and just a lack of attacking penetration. Even when we had some possession in the Leeds twenty, we rarely looked particularly dangerous to their line. Whereas when Leeds looked capable of putting together a score from a much bigger area of the pitch.

It's the attack we need sorting out next year. We need to find ways of better using Percival's elusive pace, and creating more space for Swift. But we also need to take a leaf out of Leeds's book and try to develop more of an offloading support game in the middle. A few times, particularly in the first half, we got a forward with his hands clear in the tackle, but there were no runners coming through for the offload.

On the night, a fair result (maybe without the last try which was just a bit silly and unrepresentative). Walsh is probably feeling a bit gutted about missing the conversion right now, though.
