As I've said before, to the usual mockery, there isn't competition for places at Saints. Swift could have been the world's best winger last weekend, but if Gardner is fit, he will play.

If Swift isnt injured and has just been dropped thats another poor decision for me.

Walker out for another 7-8 weeks. Had plaster removed this week & returned to saints for rehab in week.

I don't see what the support for Swift as a winger is about? He's clearly not a winger and will never forge a career there, so why waste time pretending he is? Gardner has done well when he's played and if anything, his returns will be vital given how poor the pack is at the moment. He'll probably do 100m worth of hard work through the game which could be crucial. Swift won't do that.

Is swift a scrum half ?

Thought he started off as a stand off. Wonder if Brown will try him out in that position when the opportunity arises.

No he hasn't. He has been poor this season, on the relatively few occasions he has played. His defence has been poor, he has no pace in attack, he can't catch a bomb and even his famed kick returns haven't been consistently good.

Makinson isn't a winger either. He learned how to be a winger while playing for the first team on the wing during Gardners first long injury absence in 2011. A lot of young backs start out by playing on the wing. As others often say, most young players don't have a fixed position when they come into the first team. If given a decent run at wing, who is to say that Swift wouldn't make a great winger? He certainly has potential there.

At this point in time, experience and yards are important and Gardner brings both.

Defence is equally important. No good making yards or having experience but not defending effectively.

We could sign Ryan Hall and you'd argue Makinson should play in front of him.

All anyone ever goes on about with regard to Gardner is his kick returns. We must be bloody desperate is all I can say because when last I listened to people who knew about rugby league, there was a whole lot more to a winger than bloody kick returns. Gardner has brought nothing else to the team this season.

If he's so good at taking the ball forward then play him in the forwards where he can do it to his heart's content and stick Swift on the wing, a player who has pace and can catch a bomb as well as bring back the ball.

i think the right thing to do is have Makinson at fb until lomax returns. Ade on the wing over Swift makes sense too, to bring much needed experience on the flanks. Swift looks good, but needs drip feeding into the team.

How do you think you'll go on at HKR bearing in mind AFAIK your last win there was in the C Cup?

The decision on Ade is the right one. It is a bear pit and he has the experience to steady things a touch. I actually fancy us if LMS and Lafranchi just do the right things.
