Whilst, I don't think DA was any sort of coaching messiah (his all conquering side had a glut of talent for a salary capped squad and was helped by an era of quick PTBs and a massive front row).
However, he id show more ability to improve his players technically than we've seen recently, the case in point (imo) being Sean Long. Whilst his game had started to become more rounded, it wasn't until DA's arrival that we saw him turn into a genuine controlling 1st reciever.
He wouldn't be a bad appointment, but I'm still having a bit of blind faith that Brown will turn up as arranged.

| We shouldn't even be having this discussion. Nathan Brown has signed a contract, and it would be terribly ungentlemanly of him to renege at this stage. He should make a statement, along with the Saints board, re-iterating his commitment to this job.

Hasn't his manager stated he's fully committed to saints?
To be fair, he's not said he's not coming and has signed a three year deal, it's all paper talk so IMO he's nothing to answer to.

| In talks with Wests Tigers. He's either going there as coach or we're tying up the loose ends on the Benji Marshall for Lance Hohaia swap deal.

If its true that he's talking to wests and he's unsuccessful in getting the job then we should sack him before he even gets here.
No point in having him if he's going to jump ship at first chance.

Quite agree with that, but I'm amazed that given his history of wanting to return to the nrl at every opportunity, we haven't made sure that his contract makes clear that if he leaves early, or even discusses a move, then he gets hammered. Thisay all be completely unfair on brown who has nothing to do with these rumours and is currently working his gonads off on plans to make saints unbeatable next year, but if that is the case I would have hoped that he would give a clear statement of his commitment to saints, and not the mealy mouthed apology that his snivelling manager came out with.

| Why do we go with coaches who obviously don't really want the job? Didn't Mick Potter do the same because no jobs became available in Australia? Next time buy British.

"Candidates for the Tigers job include Melbourne assistant coach Kevin Walters and Manly and NSW assistant coach Matt Parish".
and
"Former St George Illawarra coach Nathan Brown has been mentioned but he is about to join St Helens on a deal that is understood to make him one of the highest-paid coaches in the game. ‘‘At this time Nathan is focused on his St Helens post,’’ Brown’s manager, George Mimis, said of Brown, who has been working with the Storm going into tonight’s preliminary final. ‘‘We understand the speculation and interest but we have had no conversations with any other party.’’
Not sure if offered the job that Brown would turn them down though.

If there are issues they are probably being dealt with behind closed doors. If he wants out of a contract we may be looking for compo
