Quote: the flying biscuit "thats a bit harsh I'm not keen on the lad myself but I wouldnt call him a little stunt.....

I do love Rogues perfectly legal 7 or 8 second play the ball though ...

[iTackler A goes chest high to wrap up the ball, tackler B goes just above the waist. They hold the ball carrier up for around three to four seconds,- (here the ref should shout held at this point as the tackle is complete) at which point tackler B slides down the ball carriers legs.(if given latitude tackler B should roll away) The two tacklers then put the ball player on his back, (normally you'd expect a penalty at this point) tackler B moves away from the tackle to the B marker position and then tackler A assumes the A marker position.(at this point the rest of the rugby World is bored Sh1tless and has started watching Rugby Union) .[/i'"

And you seriously believe we are the only team doing this??

Not for one minute.
but why is it great defence for your team when they hold down for so long yet in a sky game earlier on in the season (Cas I think) they tried the same thing albeit slightly quicker than a wigan tackle and Stevo bleats on about how the ref has got to get a grip with this holding down.

holding down for 8 seconds is holding down for 8 seconds its too long end of story.
Other teams shouldnt then be penalised for holding down for 5 seconds just because they dont perfom the routine in the regimented manner Wigan do....

well done to your coach and players though....I wish we could lie on for 8 seconds ...if we could, the truth is we would have beaten Leeds last week

The way I described it is not holding down for eight seconds. Read it again.

The initial tackle is about three seconds and the tackled player is moving.
Then they take him to ground and peel off the tackle.

The whole tackle takes eight seconds. It is only illegal if the referee shouts held within the first three or four seconds, but as the "tackled" player is still moving he should not do so as the player with the ball is quite entitled to pass it.

Ball playing forwards, the likes of Puletua, Solomona and Laututi often take advantage of this kind of tackle.

I've often stated before that the great Brian McTigue would have had a field day with this type of tackle because of his ball handling skills.

Turning a man on his back after the ref shouts 'held' is actually illegal. Wigan do this all the time and most times get away with it. Wigan seems to have concluded that anything goes in the tackle right up to the point the ref shouts 'Mooooove'. But they are getting away with it because refs arn't stopping them. Refs seem to have bent the interpretation of the tackle rule and Wigan are exploiting it to the max.

Part of me says good luck to them but the rational part of me says get it sorted refs.

Everyone's getting worked up something Eddie H said, right or wrong.
It's a fact that all teams try to slow down their opponents ptb and when they are in possession get the fastest ptb they can. Nothing has changed there!

BTW has anyone a view of why Bentley was not sin binned for the late tackle on Deacon when the ref gave a penalty? Isn't it in the rules that it is an automatic sin bin for taking out a kicker late?
Seen it in the game more and more that when the kicker is taken out the team get a pen but the offender doesn't get binned.

As far as Im aware most of rugby league doesnt see what we do as great defence!!

Thats my view. Everyone does it, the better teams are better at doing it! Saints and Leeds havent dominated just on the back of their attack!!
When we master the art of taking a step to the side before playing the ball to catch markers not square (ala _______ and _______) then that will be another thing we are "cheating with".

Said same about the sin binning myself. Bentham told me 1 hour before kick off that he sin binned Farrell because hitting the kicker off the ball is a mandatory sin binning but was just a pen sun!!(I didnt think either were sin binnings TBH but its the inconsistency) He also said he failed to see the one on the Wigan player before Farrells and that McGuire did con him a little with his rolling round like a girl holding his face!!

Wigan do this to make sure the opposition can't get a quick play the ball but they want a quick play the ball themselves. If all teams tackled and held like Wigan do then no one would ever get a quick play the ball. The game would become slow and boring. I think that is what we all want to avoid.
I hope every other team make a pact to do this next season and just lets see what the refs do and how the crowds react. It might be good for Wigan but it will become detrimental to our game as we know it if it is allowed to continue. (Hope that makes sence)

Well it is certain that not ALL teams do it like Wigan do. Whichever team/s do it, it wants getting done away with. HTH

Love us or hate us but compare Wires tactics to Wigans, good fair winning rugby is achievable.

And which team has scored most points and conceded least despite having the more difficult game at the Magic weekend.

There's bugger all wrong with Wigans tactics.

They just do what every other team tries to do in defence, but a little bit better.
