| Quote SaintsFan="SaintsFan"There is everything wrong with soccer doing well anywhere! We gave them ten years for free. If they can't build up adequate support in that time with no rental to pay then they aren't going to do it now. There are plenty of soccer clubs in the region. We're a rugby town. For me they can go and find somewhere else to play.'"
well said SaintsFan

| What sounds like a hurricane has just blown into St Helens. I wonder how our stadium roof will cope?

| you need to get your facts right, they never played for free, and you will find that we got a grant from sport england, which we got on the back of using the stadium for the benifit of the community. personally i think we should use it for more things, as long as they dont wreck the pitch, anything which benifits the town is good

Since it is Saints who have stated that they played for free then if you don't mind I will believe the club on that one. And yes, I know we got a grant from Sport England because we allowed them to play at KR for free. Whether we got money from Sport England is irrelevant to whether they paid rent or not. They still paid no rent.

Yes they may have paid no rent, but that is not in question it is whether Langtree Park definitely supported by various bodies with grants and help is for the Community of St Helens or solely for the use of a rugby league team?
There is no doubt if funds or help was given with the understanding the use of Langtree Park would be for the good of St Helens RLFC and the Community then if it is only to be used by the rugby league club and no one else, in this case St Helens Town FC then such funds should be returned to all bodies concerned. Yes that sounds tough but when public funds may be used to help then that is reality.

Langtree Park was funded by Saints. It is NOT a community stadium and Saints received no public funds of any kind to finance its building. Saints funded it through the sale of Knowsley Road plus private financing packages, some of which are repayable. It is Saints to do with what they like within the confines of the law! So if Saints don't want Town to play there then they can say no to Town. End of story.

Then SaintsFan that was not what I always believed! it surprises to me what you claim and you seem really certain, not one penny of regional funding, not one penny of sports council funding and not one penny of any money from St Helens Metropolitan Council????

Not towards the building of the stadium no. As me and many others have said many times on various boards, St Helens Council and the NWDA funded the clearance of the former UGB site on which the Tesco and Langtree Park are situated, and St Helens Council also entirely funded the footbridge which is taking forever to be installed across the Linkway. Tesco funded their building and Saints funded their building. Langtree were the developers. Taylor Wimpey bought Knowsley Road from Saints and there are now houses on a portion of the former Saints home.
Hopefully that makes things clearer!

Without the clearing of the site and planning permission the stadium would never have been built, would you agree?
Maybe you need to have a word with one of your mods.
Quote SaintsFan="Saint Simon"i hope he doesnt teach them geography, he thinks billinge is in wigan, even though he pays his council tax to St.Helens MBC and therefore partially paid for our new stadium
'"
So who is correct?
