Back on topic. I would have thought that the fairest way to handle it would have been to give Wigan the full East Stand allocation, but with the proviso that any unsold tickets be returned to Saints one week prior to the game.'"
When people start talking about fairness, they are talking from a certain point of view. For me the fairest thing is the freemarket. Stick them on the website and let whoever wants to come buy them.
Giving a special allocation so early is not the norm, it's the exception to the norm. Most teams that come to Langtree Park will get their allocation after the games have been on the Saints Website for a few weeks.
Giving tickets to Wigan 6 weeks in advance is very unusaul. How early did Wigan get their tickets last year???

It's our ground. We decide on your allocation. Nothing to do with fairness. You get what you are given. End of. Whinge all you want but that is the way it is!

Just checked the website and:
North stand allocated - 3 tickets left (all single seats)
South stand allocated - 18 tickets left (all single seats)
You can't see from the ticketing website the numbers available for the unallocated bit

| Lovely. Looking like a sell out 6 weeks ahead of schedule. And it won't even be on the radar of thousands of fans yet.

And play the game in front of a Stains only crowd ..............fantastic atmos...

I am genuinely curious as to why you're attending this pointless game that means nothing?

Petty? You seemed to be very convinced that this was a meaningless game. I'm just suprised you have taken a ticket that a proper fan could have had.

*sigh* OK, I'll bite, much against my better judgement....
Don't get me wrong - I love my Saints and would watch them in any number of friendlies if I could. Meaningless, tedious trudge of a league season or not, I'd still be a season ticket holder if I lived within a reasonable range to be able to make most games comfortably. It's just the enormous hassle of hacking through M1/M6 rushour traffic on a Friday afternoon/evening combined with the pointlessness of the ultimate result of most of the games that mean I just can't in any way justify the cost and stress of trying to get to them. If there were more games on a Sunday I'd go to more. If there were more games on a Friday that actually mattered I'd make the effort to go to even more still. But there aren't, and I don't.
And for me ALL games against Wigan matter - the result on GF might mean the square root of bugger all as far as any trophy shakeup is concerned, but winning against the pies always matters whether it be in a friendly or a World Cup Final. I can get excited about playing Wigan in a futile league game with a result of no importance - I can't get excited about playing Salford, Catalans or Hull KR in such a game.
...and MK are at Preston NE the day after so we're up making a weekend of it

ALL Wigan games? You mentioned in another thread you only make the effort for the "odd Wigan game"!!
You mention not getting excited about playing the likes of Salford, Hull KR and Catalans? Have you seen those games this year?? The first was the opening of the new ground (a must for any real fan surely), Hull KR was a high scoring draw and Catalan (who are the only team with 100% record) beat us with the last play of the game!! Three very poor examples.
To be honest I hope the club introduce a voucher scheme for the higher profile games where fans have to provide ticket stubs from a set amount of previous games, so that casual fans with your attitude can not get a ticket unless there are any left after the fans who can be bothered to go to games have got theirs.

"Casual fan"? Listen, palat all[/i. If anyone on this board can give me one single good reason why that's a worthwhile endeavour, beyond the pathetic "you're not a real fan" c**p that you numpties only seem capable of, then I'll be there every week in a shot.
I am sick and tired of coming out of grounds after results that would once have made me overjoyed or angry and being able to feel nothing but ennui instead. I can see no point in putting myself out for occasions that I can feel hardly any emotional attachment to nor investment in. I want nothing more than to be able to see my team on a regular basis and feel anticipation/excitement/etc. at the outcome of the game, but the RL completely robs me of that now.
If you're happy ploughing through the soulless 27 game debacle then good on you. I'm not. I envy your continued ability to get excited at us throwing away a hard fought win against a good side early in the season, even when the loss actually means nothing and counts for nothing. I wish I had rose-tinted glasses like yours that let me get worked up about such games as well the way I once used to. But I don't. Deal with it.
