Would Gary Connolly not have been a better choice? He clearly was a top class full-back before his move to centre.

Good call, but he is still known more as a centre.
I did consider Steve Prescott and David Lyon (who I thought was very under rated) also Austin Rhodes.

Lyon was a very competant full back, but IIRC Prescott took his chance when he was injured.
In terms of giving the speccies their money's worth, Prescott is one of the best I've seen. Very classy full back.

I'm too young to have seen Austin play but my Dad often raves about him. Good shout re: Prescott but I'd still put Connolly ahead of him. As to Lyon, he was a very good FB but probably on a par with Vievers overall.

Wellens, like Radlinski, has never been a truly top class full back.
Club greats yes, game greats? Alas not.

It is. I'm not sure he's the best full back this club has ever seen though.

He is the best I have seen since '85.
This thread is all about opinions from different era's but for the idiot troll to make the comment he did about not being able to think of a class full back and stand off is the most obvious trolling I have ever seen.
IF we did that on the C&W board we would be banned. Pity our Mods aren't as keen with certain posters.

Yet you still bite, despite knowing it's an attempt at a troll?
