| How many points clear were Leeds in 2004? Has any other team been that dominant in the league?
The Bulls team of 03 wasn't that much better than the one Leeds bested in 04. Similarly the Saints team of 2006 wasn't that much better than the one Leeds bested in 07.
Not sure about the current Leeds team. The one in 2004 was certainly more entertaining, and I prefer the 07 version with Ellis and Toopi in it to the current lot who seem to have been saving themselves for the play-offs since Saints knocked us out of the CC.

I dunno. Thread was started by a Saints fan, don't think many Leeds fans have been particularly over confident.

For mine saints have a ton of motivation due to the last 2 gfs, the match at hq and the players leaving. But with that comes a massive amount of pressure and emotion!
Leeds have a strong focus but do they still have the hunger?

| I prefer the longer term view, with consistent success over a prolonged period. Saints' consistency over the whole era would put them top of the tree, but Bradford's five consecutive GF's is a some going aswell, as is Leeds' five finals in the last six seasons. Three consecutive Grand Final wins would top the lot though. Let's hope it happens soon, ie Saints 09, 10 & 11.

Aye. We only lost 2 games that season aswell, and set the record for points scored too (I think). If the 2004 Leeds team isn't the best, its certainly the most underrated.

5. Wigan
6. Huddersfield
7. Bradford
8. Hull KR

9. Wakefield
10. Castleford

| League record for least defeats is Wigan in '98 with 2. Both against Leeds, just to set the record straight.
IMO season by season the Bradford 2003 team was the strongest but over th course of SL in all competitions it goes:
Saints
Bradford
Leeds
With Leeds overtaking the Bulls providing they win at OT.
In SL alone I think its:
Bradford
Saints
Leeds
With Leeds overtaking Saints if all goes according to plan on saturday.

| I think that our 2006 team is the single best team over a one season period. The current Leeds team is the best team to cosistently produce over a number of years.

| I'm quite surprised that no one has mention the St Helens 96 team tbh. We only lost 2 games all year in the league. Wigan away and bradford away (who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively). We won the Challenge cup aswell. And got to the premiership final were we got beat off wigan. Wining 2 trophies out of 3 and only losing 3 games all year is quite some achievement

Is this "Best" or "Most Successfull"?
From a Leeds perspective, I think our 2005 team was our best, though (Due to Senior getting crippled by Bradford a week before the Challenge Cup Final) they only won the WCC.

To all those people who critisized this team...tonight's for you.

| Stains are light years ahead as the greatest SL team. The first half of SL you had a strong challenge from the Dulls and more recently from us. Trophies won says it all. I think the best team of the SL era was the Stains 2006 outfit.

| saints are light years ahead of anyone else as the best.
They've had the best individual team (06)
the most successful single season (06)
and have consistently won more trophies than any other since 96
saints would have to decline into mediucority and leeds or bradford have a continued period of domination for 5 or so years to catch them.
The bradford 03 team is well overrated.
An inexperienced young leeds team coached by daryl powell was within a whisker of that bulls team. How they are considered the best i'll never know.

| Over the last several season there has been very little between Saints and Leeds on the field on play - never mind who won the silverware. Both teams have been outstanding with fast open rugby and yes tough defences as well.
In the period when Bradford were at the top there was no real challenger so IMO Saints and Leeds have had it tougher to win anything so maybe it should be these two as equal best.
If not you would have to say Saints by a whisker but close to being overtaken by Leeds.
