| Quote: Dux "Whatever it means, props with real size are a rare commodity, and any successful side needs at least one big prop, whether they play a forward oriented game or not. Add to that the fact that our scouting system has recently brought in two young athletic outside backs who are currently ripping it up at U19 level.
This news shows that we are competing nationwide and beyond for young talent, and thinking outside the box too. To put a negative spin on it is just perverse.'"
I agree. I mean, we can debate whether Saints' current style of play is "too conservative" or "pragmatic" etc. To be honest, it's a matter of taste.
But I think both sides of the argument must agree that without a good forward pack - there can be no success. You don't win SL titles without a competitive front six. The greatest backline in the history of the sport would be hard pressed to exert dominance over the opposing team if its forwards were being trampled in defence whilst going forward they struggling to make twenty five metres each set.
You just get more bang for your buck in the forwards. A good prop can give you twelve, perhaps fifteen years (think Jamie Peacock) of quality performances. It's much more difficult for backs. Usually they aren't the biggest, strongest guys to begin with. How many young centres and wingers have been promoted from the academy only to be thrown around like rag dolls?
Very often they need to squeeze out every last bit of growth from their bodies before they are able to stand up to the physical rigours of professional RL. Which means they're hitting peak around the age of 23 or 24. Sure, young forwards find it difficult breaking into the first team, too. But if you're already 6'2 and 16.5 stones at the age of 20 - not having experienced your final growth stage at 23 is no great issue. Scully is a fine example. He really didn't hit absolute peak until he fleshed out at 23. But the important point is that up until 23 he was already big enough to be more than worth selecting. Compare with someone such as Makinson who up until last season I didn't think was anywhere near big enough to be a success.
The other thing about backs is that there aren't many over the age of 30 who are still playing at peak form. Joints lose their suppleness. Hamstrings tighten or are debilitated by successive injuries. Comparing the two, good forwards just hang around longer than good backs. And they certainly exert greater influence over the nature of the game.

| I can't remember the exact details but I'm fairly certain this isn't the first 100 yard try Nzoungou's scored in his (brief) career.

| Quote: LFC Saint "Knowles is from Cumbria, Levy from Toulouse, Grace and Wellington from South Wales, Micah from Sydney. Saints looking further afield for talent.
So many positive players at the minute. Grace, Wellington, Richardson, Bailey in the backs and Knowles, Davies, Morris, Smith in the forwards. Not to mention Spedding (who was called up to the latest English team)
Saints put a ad in the reporter months back asking for families to get in touch if they could house juniors who play for Saints who live quite far away, seems like Saints scouting team are doing the business.'"
If you want to be a world class club then you need to find the talent regardless of where they are from.

St Pete and Noel Cleal, down with the kids
Who are these lads you are talked about and who has picked them up? Then when they are Super League players you can say "I told you so".

Not sure on all the names mate as I know them from watching amatuer rugby and talking to the coaches etc.
I know about 3 from brook went to wigsn (on 1st june), the lad from clock who plays fullback.
The is a kid ive been banging on about for long time who had Warrington, Widnes, leeds after him who is a saints fan. His name is barnes. Everyone I talk to about him tells me he's special. Few saints lads watched him in a semi final and all raving about him. One player said "he looks like a once a decade of a player that only come around every ten or so years".
I'm not sure but I believe Barnes went to Widnes or Warrington I can't remember which.

| The 3 lads from brook are all massive Wigan fans. Joe is dissapointing however just like the lad Barnes they play in division 2 of there age group, meaning the standard is quite poor. If you have a bit about you and some pace then it's try galore. Saints u16 fullback and England u16 fullback Kevin Brown is from St Pats (so it works both ways).

I've seen Barnes do it against prem league teams also. I think him and joe are two very talented kids from what ive seen. Wello was in shock how good Barnes was and that was in a semi final against leigh miners who is prem side.
It's not just pace with him, it's his all round game. He's top tackler every week, he scores try after try and it's not just running around teams like happens at this level or that he's bigger than the rest as he's not. It's pure natural skill. He's played fullback, centre, loose, secondrow and obvously stand off where he's devaststing.
I think joe relies on pace more than anytning and at this age thsts a killer. So I think he might struggle when he can't run around teams when it's higher level.
From the two, I think Barnes is the better and I think he's special.
LFC Saint you have pm

I thought it was Sonny Nickle with Kyle Eastmond's pace. It's like someone's been messing with the editor and given him 100 pace. Crazy try.
Dare I say it, he's not THAT big? Prop or backrow ultimately?
Wellington looks good for first team physically, what's his all round game like?
