Shouting isn't always the best way. I know this from my time as a Military Instructor at a Recruit Depot. Basically, if people don't want to buy in to what you want to achieve then they just won't.

Who said anything about shouting?

True, but with the exceptions of Agent Millward who was abysmal and Dennis Betts who found himself in a position he clearly wasn't ready for, we only tended to sack the successful ones. By today's standards across Super League, Graeme West and Uncle Frank were world class!

| One of your physios who I know quite well attended a meeting of the players and coaches last season and the blame for poor form was put squarely on his shoulders He, effectively, was sacked even though he walked out...Since that day he's never been happier.

| Potter no passion. Simmons no passion. Brown no passion. Noble at the pie dome no passion. Macguire at the pie dome filled with passion. Guy the gorilla filled with passion.
What is needed is a coach that is overflowing with passion that can instill the same into his players.

Millward plenty of passion, and is arguably our most under achieving coach out of the lot in hindsight, given the teams he had at his disposal!

If people can suggest Anderson under achieved with the squad he had in his time I can suggest Millward did!

| Quote: Magic Superbeetle "He doesn't necessarily need to spend time away from the club, but he needs to spend more time in the background - he will only be ready when everyone around the club remember him as a coach from the first day they were at the club. Right now, he'd be coaching players he played with, let alone started coaching as youngsters, and that's a bad position to be in.
Whether he spends the time at another club lower down the divisions, or in the back ground of saints is his choice - but he certainly isn't ready for top job (though I'd love to be proven wrong - imo we need a coach to be able to come in and work long term, too many times have we had coaches for a couple of years then move on - there's no consistency in that!)'"
I agree he needs to be in the background - but he needs experience of something other than saints. Hes known nothing else - a fresh outlook is what he needs with a wider experience.

Don't actually agree. He's had a very wide range of coaches he's played under - which is the important fact. Players like fielden who only ever played under noble really would struggle as they would only know 1 routine, but Kieran has seen how McRae, Hanley, Millward, Anderson, Potter, Simmons, Rush and now Brown has done it - which is the same variation he'd get from moving around different clubs. He's picked and chosen what he's taken from each of the coaches, and can bring that now - I just thinks he needs to see a few more as an assistant, it doesn't matter where.

| But we are talking coaching experience and not playing experience. He has not coached at say a championship level or even at a different level in SL.
There is talk of getting Powell who has moved around to gain that experience.
McDermott would be another as is almost every coach in SL.
I think it's a bit of a side issue anyway as Cunningham is not the problem, it's more the same backroom under various coaches that is the question for me. We keep moving the coaches and yet the form remains fairly static, which to me suggests a culture rather than a leadership issue.
The leader can suggest something, but if the culture runs counter to that and the leader does not have free reign to change it, then you get the situation that is similar to the co-operative group. Everyone can see there is a problem, people are brought in from outside to change it, but that change is not bought into as those in the leadership structure run counter to the tops direction

Wello is a hot head. He's certain to tell the players what he means, that's for sure.
Does he have the rugby brain for it? I'm not so sure.
Longy would make a good coach but he's a idiot! His rugby knowledge is 2nd to none and can read a game but like I said, he's just a total idiot.

Apologies for being pedantic but didn't he also play under Eric Hughes and possibly Mike McClennan?
