| Quote: I Grope Balls "Surely paying rent must eat away at your profits,I can't wait to see the figures regarding your clubs turnover,do you believe that Wigan can sustain it's status as a profitable club long term when mr whelan has got your club by the balls, lets hope for your sake that he doesn't squeeze eh?
If only you had somewhere you could call home like us?
The goons financial status is inextricably linked to their association with a premiership footy club who subsidise their existence. For many years goons supporters have been praying for the footy club to get relegated. Now it is looking like becoming reality, they will have to start to fund a greater share of the dw costs. Their marginal profitability will soon evaporate.

| I think the key point is that once all the extrordinary costs are out of the way in respect of the new stadium it should become a right good earner. The stadium belongs to the club and unlike the vast majority of clubs in the league the benefit of all the revenue streams will go into the clubs coffers without anyone else taking a slice.
Other than Warrington and Leeds I'm struggling to think of any other club ( with the facilities to take advantage) where that is the case ?

the only proof he needs is that uncle ian is very public with the fans and has said wigan is now a profitable company as of 2010. if we made the challenge cup final in 2009 we would of also made profit (ian lenagan's words not mine).
doesn't matter if wigan made 1pound profit or 100k profit its still not relying on bank loans and handouts. very astute buisnessman is eric pollards double.
DW stadium lease: i am sure ian would love wigan athletic to chuck us out i am guessing there would be a big pay out as the lease is for over 50 years. not sure it would make a big difference if we owned are own stadium all the overheads would probably equal it out, the only difference would be the club on papper would be worth more.
but this thread is about saints finances and i am sure in a few years you will be making a profit (i hope you do) it will make the game alot stronger. alot of union clubs have money problems and no doubt are just trying to papper it over by pointing out a few league clubs aren't solvent with out hand outs.

My reply was as a response to
Quote: Allez "In an attempt to cheer me up, one of my accountant friends from back home did some research (in his own time of course) and emailed me that of the 30 professional rugby (both codes) clubs in England only 2 have made any sort of profit (in admittedly terrible economic conditions) in the last few (available) years.
These being Leicester Tigers and the Leeds holding company. The other 28 have all posted losses.
Obviously you guys should be well placed now and moving forward with someone who has taken the long view and absorbed some short -term debt.'"
Which is obviously wrong as I stated as Wigan DID make a profit in the 2010 season, and WILL show a profit for 2011.
Q.E.D.
How do I know?
Wigan actually held a shareholders meeting to tell us.

The last figures showed a loss of around £1.3 million for 2010
The 2011 figures will not be published until around July / August 2012.
The 2012 figures probably won't be published until July / August 2013.

Ignoring from the Pies and their "do they or don't they" debate raging tediously across these pages, you missed the other "Saints" who also make big profits every year too:

| Deloittes recently issued a report considering the finances of rugby clubs across Europe, primarily focusing on rugby union clubs as they were by far the biggest in respect of turnover (with the majority of the leading clubs being French). The results of the report were basically that to prosper clubs require to own their stadium so that turnover (and hopefully profits) can be increased by revenue streams additional to 14 or so matchdays a year.
The key for Saints is to maximse the use of the stadium. At present I understand that there is a quite a bit of "space" that is under-utilised. One of the problems here is the cost of fitting-out such spaces so that they become revenue earners. Warrington took out a bank-loan to cover this cost and this represents the biggest debt the club has, at present with an interest rate of 1.75% above base, this is manageable and Warrington has posted profits for something like 4 out of the last 5 set of accounts but if interest rates increase significently then this may become a burden.
