Pryce is not an impact player period. If you want an impact player then have Gaskell on the bench with Wheeler to start. Gaskell scored a try every time he came on during the period Pryce was playing, including at the CC semi. That to me suggests impact. Unlike Pryce, who had no impact. His shirt did blind me though with its whiteness.'"
How can you say Pryce isnt an impact player? He has pace, a great running game and he is creative. He can also provide cover for 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,9 & 13 without having to move other players around which is something Royce seems to prefer (hence wasting a bench spot on an outside back when all our HB's are injured)

(a) He did have these things but they haven't been in evidence since his comeback match. Any other halfback and you'd be suggesting he is dropped. (b) Lomax also has the same impact so you can't play him and Lomax together unless you want two runners who do not have a short kicking game, or come to think of it a tactical long kicking game (although Lomax is showing early signs of one).
If we play with Pryce and Lomax in the halves then even if our forwards are heroic, as they were in the CC, we will not win because we won't be able to make much of their work. We need a complementary halfback pairing not two of the same.
But even if we didn't play Wheeler in the halves, at centre he could create all kinds of problems and Wigan won't be used to him.

We dont know if wheeler or pryce would offer any impact as they aint played from the bench enough to show it.
If I was picking the team I'd have sane team as the Wigan game with pryce in for Armstrong. Pryce could be a devastating bench player.
No point in falling out over this as whoever the back is Royce puts on the bench ight not come on at all or might get 7 mins at the end.

| Agree with most of what has been said. Simmons would be crazy to drop Gaskell after his performance 2 weeks ago. As a Wigan fan i'd rather you played Pryce & Lomax in the halves. Should be a classic game, Wigan wont play as badly as they did last time they met. May the best team win.

I agree. You have to cover a certain amount of bases with your half back partnership, from danger with ball in hand to creative distribution to the all important long kicking game.
Because of this, imo, Gaskell has managed to play his way into essentially being my first choice half back, since he is the only one who has a reliable and effective long kicking game.
I suspect Wheeler may have more variety in his game than I give him credit for, but since we've seen so little of him, I can't be sure.
On a related note, last night I watched part of the Wakey home game. Wheeler had moved to stand off from centre when Gaskell had been injured and played a blinder. The opposition wasn't the best, but that wasn't his fault.

Wheeler is the most naturally gifted RL player in our squad IMO.

I'm not sure if "the most" is correct as we have some pretty special players, but when questioned by Rogues as to why we all rate Wheeler so highly I replied -
Some players are good because their fast, big, agile, skillful, but the best way to describe Wheeler is he's just good at rugby. He get's put in situations that other players fluff and he executes things perfectly. He make rugby league look easy.
Not many people can say that.
His injury woes make me ache to the very core.

| Good as Wheeler is, I don't think he'll be playing on Saturday. Agree with 1984saints. Same team as last week with Pryce on the bench.

| Absolute balls the lot of you.
When exactly has Gary Wheeler displayed this talent, this perfect execution and make rugby look easy?
Get him released.

Well his last two games were what - Wigan away and Quins away. Both of those for starters.
