That was started by the genius Anderson, who preferred Flannery at loose IIRC.

Seeing as you've compared Wlkin against Hoffman. How about we compare Wlkin against Liam Farrel. A youngster with less than 50 games against his name. Liam makes more meters per carrie, more tackles and marker tackles per match. With less missed tackles and less mistakes. All from a guy who plays 40 minutes a match compared to Wilkin's 80.'"
Wilkin is far from anonymous - he's a hard working back rower who does some fabulous work for his team, in the same way that Hansen does for you, with the added benefit of having a crack at the halves when needed.
He's having an excellent year and was in tip top form before his injury, and is playing well again now he's back. To say he is anonymous is just plain daft, but not unexpected.

Correct. The most overrated coach of the Super League era, without a shadow of a doubt.
I hope Wilkin kicks on in his natural position when he returns to it.

So, out of ALL the past and present SL coaches you unequivocally select GF Winner, GF Runner Up, three-time CC winner, World Club Challenge Winner - Daniel Anderson - the man who, in his opening season, transformed a perennially leaky Saints defence into the meanest SL had ever seen?
Are you credible?

You can remember all that at 2:19am?
I'm not quite sure what my own name is right about now.

Only a dimwit would compare statistics for two players, one of whom is able to play at full tilt (without fatigue) for the entire duration of his spell(s) whilst the other performs the same duties (and often those of a halfback) - fully fatigued and in a variety of positions (which affects the number of marker tackles he will make) for the entire match.
If we want a fair comparison let's see how Farrell performs over a full eighty minutes - one week after playing the same at stand-off whilst also assuming the responsibility of primary place kicker..
I think we both know who'll come out on top.

whilst we are there lets compare how Wayne Rooney compares in goals against Petr Chec next weekend - equally unlikely to happen.

I was talking Saints coaches, not all Super League coaches (that would, obviously, be ridiculous). Plus, yes I am credible, absolutely.
I don't think you can add Grand Final runner up to his list of successes with the side he had, either. He is simply not the coach that fans make him out to be.

Apart from Wigans last season?
I do think Wilkin is a vastly under rated player by fans of many clubs, including your own.

He said "Had".
It's past tense.
Wilkin's problem is he promises to be genuinely top drawer, then rarely backs it up at the same level.
Good performer, and I agree he's underrated, but he doesn't reach the heights he seems capable of on a regular enough basis.

At the time it was the best D, SL had seen and we did have an arduous extra game back in 2006 that Wigan didn't have to prepare for last season
The problem Wilkin has given himself is that he has shown he has bags of talent with some outstanding performances. But then he doesn't use them very often and as he isn't seen making 50m breaks, kicking 40:20's and scoring tries a lot of the work he is doing generally goes unnoticed.

We also kept our scores against to single figures during the play offs, whereas Wigan were averaging 15 points against when the competition picked up.
We also had the extra exertions of a Challenge Cup winning run (conceding an average of 10 points per game) whereas in 2010 Wigan failed to carry their mean defence into the cup comp, conceding an average of nearly 19 points per game and going out as soon as they met SL opposition.
Seems it's easy to have a 'mean' defence (which in Super League games was only decimals away from Saints 'points against' anyway) when you can't back it up across the board.
But yeah, Wilkin - top grafter, but you feel he could be so much more.
